Thats because us western people start to feel good to be the blue-collar worker, so the demand rises, and supply keeps dropping. Its a fact we are getting lazy.
That being said, brb in belgium every SINGLE blue-collar worker you see on the street, working on the infrastructure/or that are in in the construction field are ALL foreigners.
n this problem will only get worse with our current generation..
BRB that potato logic, need foreigners workers cus we don't want to do it our selves, but then complain about too many foreigners..

Troof. Downside of trades are:
1. Less respect (which is bullchit, IMHO)
2. Low ceiling (rare is the tradesman who really starts and grows that private business he's always talking about)
3. Hard on the body (matters a lot more when you're 40+ and don't want to ache every day)
Great alternative to college. I'd rather be a framer or electrician than an office worker. In fact, I'd rather be a waiter or a parts runner/driver than an office worker.

I was just in a thread last week about being poor, got slotted for a raise @ work right afterwards. So I went from 36k to 45k a year, not counting the benefits I'll get (company truck/cell phone/clothing allowances/3 weeks paid time off/Overtime galore/holidays/great insurance for family)
$21/hr blue collar work while going to school ... why do I need this damn degree if I'm already over $20/hr with benefits?
Fuak wasting money on college brahs, you can make it if you work hard and you don't need some silly paper to tell you so.

Where I come from in Maine there is more respect for blue collar workers. Office girls are just that, girls. Also, the average household income is only 30-40k, so 20/hr in trades is good money. If I was in NYC I don't think I'd be too happy with 20/hr. As far as being hard on the body, saves me time in the gym.

good thing we have people interested in such fields. or do they pick them due to the fact that they think they're going to earn a lot of money? or because college "isn't for them"?
