Went through ALOT of Sh!t for a $8/hr job

i recently got hired as a host at good restaurant and make $8/hr with tips. here are the steps i had to take to get hired....


1. lie on my resume. i had to add restaurant experience. i couldnt add my previous experience since i got fired for sexual harassment.

2. i followed up 5 times with the manager

3. finally got an interview. interview was easy

4. after the interview, i had to study the menu and take a test. i had to memorize EVERYTHING, it was fill in the blank exam. im not a server goddamn it, im a host!!!!!

5. after i passed the test, i had to pay $10 and take another stupid fking test. it was a CA Food Handlers test. took 3 fuking hours to complete. did that today

6. orientation is on monday

all this for a stupid fking minimum wage job. and to top it off, i have a BS in Health Administration and still cant find a job related to my major. still no luck after 1.5 years after graduating..

the reason it's like this is cause of a bunch of slack jaws abusing the system they have to put in stricter and more interviews to weed out the idiots. it' fcking sucks that a few dumb asses can make things so much more difficult.

Well, OP, it sucks but it's life. Supply and demand. There is a lot of supply for basic entry level jobs, but not many are hiring, so it results in low wages. Sucks but when you get in a spot where the demand is greater than the supply, you will do well. Just do this job and keep looking, build a good rep.

if you're a host at a good restaurant, you should just continue with it. Especially if its good. Its the perfect job to have if youre in school. Goes well with school hours, usually staffs enough people so you can get a weekend off if you want to go out.

If you move up to server/bartender, then its perfect. Making right under $28/hr in cash doing the serving/bartending gig.

Dude I have a BBA in Accounting and Finance, along with passed 3 parts of CPA, passed the CFE and are 4 credits away from an MBA and I can't even get an interview for an entry level accounting clerk job.

this. my wife has ba in accounting and business admin, she went to a job interview as a secretary, they hired her and paid for her to get her cpa. (which is nice cause shes making almost triple what she would have as a sec)

lmao no. Working just about any part time job in Aus you'll probably pay no tax, if you do you'd be paying <20% on less than half of what you earn. Highest bracket for income tax is like 45% on every dollar over 180k. Price levels are obviously higher here but minimum wage is enough to get by if you're just supporting yourself.

I make nearly 50k a year with weekends off, full benefits and over 2 months of vacation annually. This is in a city with a very low cost of living and here I was thinking I'm not making enough. I'm doing my graduate degree so I think it's reasonable to feel that way but this thread made me appreciate what I have a lot more.

Don't lose hope OP. Keep looking actively for other jobs after you start working. Like others have said, networking is everything.

yeah it is pretty damn low... i made 7 an hour in high school as a lumber yard, and 8 when i ran a carpet shampooer right after high school, but was making 12 an hour a few months later and only went up... the jobs are out there if you can find them

I have no idea why ppl say college degrees are scams. Let's say you get an accounting degree at your state school and take the 1st 2 years at CC since it's cheaper. If it's a "good" restaurant as you put it, 8/hr plus tips, you will easily be making at least 15/hr. And you said you have worked in restaurants before, how ****ing dumb are you? or do you assume tips aren't part of your pay check? ****ing idiot

Stop being a ******* and look outside your local area, the GUARANTEE you could take a decent salary in a rural area with that degree, work there for a year or two and then apply to metropolitan areas.

taxes =22% at around 35k/year to 45% over 127k/year.

rent= depends on where you live. toronto is disgustingly expensive.
