I hadn't seen the comparison pictures of Heath when I made this thread and have to say that he looks a lot less impressive when he stands next to Kai and Wolf.

apparently many missed my point (which was quite clear)
People are quick to say "Phil got outsized, but was better conditioned, thus he won"
But in the lower ranks JUDGES placed athletes who were a bit smaller but better conditioned LOWER than the slightly bigger/fatter/smooter ones...
GG double judging criteria, conditioning > mass when they see fit

Indeed, just look at Dallas.
Mass difference between Kai and Phil > mass difference between Kuclo and Essa
Conditioning difference between Kai and Phil < conditioning difference between Kuclo and Essa
Dallas the guy who is a bit bigger and a LOT less conditioned (Kuclo) wins, a few weeks later at the O the guy who is a lot smaller and a bit more conditioned (Phil) wins..yet Kuclo still places above Essa. Logic.

Phil and kai are very equal in proportions and symmetry, although in my opinion heath has the edge in proportions. Therefore, who wins between the two will be mainly decided by size and condition. However, that doesn't mean its all about condition and mass, making it possible that someone in the lower ranks who is more conditioned loses to a bigger smoother competitor without the need of a double standard in judging.

There's a certain limit to every aspect.
I can bring you a 18 years old kid that has better proportion and symmetry than Kuclo, but that doesn't mean he should take it.
Like it or not, there's a certain a balance that has to be attributed to every aspect put together. The Kuclo vs Essa story wasn't justified because both Kuclo and Essa were on par in terms of proportion and symmetry, the ''edge'' isn't enough to knock off mass and conditioning from the judging panel.

I was talking about the O. Double standard in different shows (are the judges even the same?) is unfortunately a reality.
Superficially, the fight between phil and kai was mainly about size vs condition, since they matched well in proportion and symmetry. On the other hand, on the lower ranks we could have something like condition vs size, proportions and symmetry, and the bigger one would win. That wouldn't mean there was disparity between the judging criteria.
I actually don't remember the comparisons with baito and essa...i know essa got a terribly unlucky posing round between the top boys, and that might have made him look bad. Im just saying there isn't necessarily a double standard based on what Tim said.

It's not just big vs. small. It's the differences in the individual physiques. The judging criteria is based on more than simply size and conditioning. It's not as simple as this guy's bigger, so he should place ahead of this guy, or this guy is more conditioned, so he should place ahead of that guy. A lot more thought goes into it than that.
Why is it that Phil is Mr.Olympia? Why is it that the year he won, there were probably a few guys with equal or similar conditioning, but they were placed behind and he was declared the winner? This is difficult for me to put into words what the exact reasoning is but there is a big difference in the physiques of Phil Heath and Baito. Dennis Wolf had better conditioning at the O than Kai why was Dennis 3rd and Kai 2nd?
Using examples like this happened here and that happened there...... meh.Spike92 is 15.
^ place this in your sig to remind the world that Spike92 is indeed 15 and will never be anything other than 15.
When im not hungry I eat. When Im tired I train. When I feel like giving up I push harder.
