What are your thoughts on this exercise? I was watching a YouTube video by Jeff Cavaliere of Athlean X and he said flyes are a waste and don't work the chest much. He gave some good examples why and some alternatives. I'm not interested in doing his workout program but he does seem pretty knowledgeable.
I've been doing flyes for quite some time. Just looking for some opinions as to whether it's a good exercise.

Just from personal experience, I love DB Flyes. I think performed correctly they really help to thicken & define the outside of your chest.
Try doing them on an Incline Bench too.
To get the most out of your Flyes, it is important to have good form. Too many people see it as a pressing movement whilst really what you should focus on is pulling the DBs inwards & up whilst squeezing your pecs.

I have a sore elbow so I have been chest flyes instead of presses for about a month and I have noticed as good of gains as press; however, I am a newbie so that might contribute to my results. I have been doing them incline/flat/decline. I will definitely continue as a finisher when I get back to benching.

For me machine flyes>cable flyes>db flyes.
Everyone is different, however. Do whatever you feel works best for you. What's viewed as useless to some, might not be for others.I remove my shirt to poop crew

My big issue is people try to focus too much on how the arms are. Some go at extreme angles and other at near straight. Personally, I bend my arms until I feel the full weight on my chest. I think it's a good exercise for pec thickness. I would try bending your arms different ways until you feel like the weight is really being moved with your chest and not your arms. Just my opinion.

Serious bodybuilders have been doing Flyes for chest development ever since there have been dumbbells and benches to use them on.
Not a good idea to allow your training (or anything else) to be swayed by the opinion of one random dude. Use your own judgement on whether or not you can feel them working in your chest. No brain, no gain.
