Question Lets try this again: Pics of equipment I bought this past weekend with questions.

I started a thread a day or so ago but for reason the pics of my equipment did not load. I got with support and they said it was just a glitch and told me to delete it and start another.....so, here it is again.

This past weekend I bought the following Nautilus Nitro machines from a closing gym.

    1. leg ext 260 lb stack
    2. prone leg curl 260 lb stack
    3. add/abduction combo 260 lb stack

I got all three machines for $1,500.00 + $100.00 for delivery and in-home set-up (still cannot believe they delivered and setup for $100).

I just missed the matching lat pulldown and functional trainer that sold for $500 each. Grrr!

BTW, I already have a cage, oly bar, plates, weight trees and a belt squat platform (plus the machines I purchased last weekend). I will be using that equipment for the biggest part but want to add a smith, lat pull, functional trainer and dumbbells with a rack but the space I have left may not be large enough to have all of those as stand alone machines.

    Now for my questions:

I know I'm not likely to find another deal (close to home) like that on a lat pulldown, functional trainer, dumbbells etc.. unless I'm willing to travel hundreds of miles not to mention by the time I did that and paid lots of $$$$ to get it moved I would have much, much more invested than I want to spend.

Having said that, I called usedgymequipment.com a couple days ago and got prices on equipment, shipping etc.

They shot me a price of $3,000.00 for a functional trainer (free motion cable cross), $1,700.00 for a life fitness pro dual lat pulldown and $1,400.00 for dumbbells/rack.......plus $1,878.00 shipping to curb with lift gate only (I would have to move equipment in my house) : total price is $7,978.00.

I'm not sure I want to spend that kind of money for just two machines and dumbbells especially for used equipment that I have never seen in person.

Has anyone here bought from them? If so, what do you have to say about them? Did they have good customer service? Did the deal go smooth or was there problems?

I would love to hear anything you have to say about usedgymequipment.com..............good or bad.

Also, after much thought I am starting to think I may be better off to buy new light commercial equipment with free shipping and inside delivery since the equipment will only be used by my wife and I.

What do you guys think of this lat machine? Have any of you used it? How does it compare to lat pulldowns such as cybex, life fitness etc..you see in commercial gyms?

Also, any suggestions on a light commercial functional trainer that can be bought online with free shipping?

    OR:

I could buy a body-solid or bodycraft jones smith machine with the lat pulldown and cable crossover on it with individual weight stacks for the lat pull and crossover. Any suggestions on which brand and series to buy if I go this way?

I would love to hear feedback from personal experience of different brands of light commercial stand alone machines or smiths with attachments.

BTW, if pics don't show please let me know.

    Thanks a ton in advance!!!

sorry op I got dedicated machines that match the leg curl/extension and adductor/abductor you bought for $65. just can't imagine paying $1500 unless I was getting some magnum/hammer strength/legend pieces. heck I know someone that would sell me a magnum abductor/adductor for 150 each.

Don't be sorry. I'm glad you got a great deal.

Do you want to sell them? Put up the pics of the machines and I will give you $1,000 for the leg ext and leg curl if it is EXACTLY like mine (same or close stack....model and series and not some worn out piece of crap.

Why? My brother is looking for Nautilus nitro like I have but the cheapest he has found it is $1,200.00 per machine not counting shipping..etc.

So, if it is so easy to come by put it up and sell it and then you can buy some more like it for the cheap.

    Waiting on pics.

PM your address, phone # etc. and I will give you a call.

My brother drives a truck (flat bed with lift gate) all through Virginia several times month so picking it up will be no problem. Heck, for that price he will even move it out for you as well.

    Thanks!

I guess you were the confused one when it came to seeing the pictures, not me. I guess I got an amazing deal on the 2 Nitro machines I bought last weekend. I bought the pronated leg curl for 140 bucks and the shoulder lateral machine for 160 dollars. They are in mint condition and I guess I will be making some really good money off of them considering what you paid and what I have seen on Ebay. I am picking them up this saturday so I will be posting pictures. Boom!

I thought this was an equipment section as in: "lets talk "x" brand or "x" footprint or what ever a person needs..... Or.... has anyone tried "x" machine?

I had no idea that it was a section for people to come in and say childish comments.

Just like the other guy............I'm glad you got a good or even a great deal..........but what does that have to do with me?

I posted some pics..............asked some simple questions..........LOL.............not only did you or the other guy even attempt to answer my questions but you did take time to say that you think I got ripped off. I don't get it?

    So what.

If you can help me with my questions about light commercial stuff like body solid, bodycraft........etc......please do so. Otherwise why bother?

BTW, I make you the same offer as the other person.

ANYONE that has this exact same equipment with upgraded stacks in new like condition (not one scratch or tear) can sell them to me ALL DAY LONG for $500 each.

I'll help get you back on topic. oP what kind of dumbbells and rack did they quote you $1500 for?

Is all of this like brand new?

I can tell you those prices seem up there, I assume they are refurbished maybe? Either way, depending on what you are looking for and where you live, comparable pieces can be gotten cheaper.

Nautilus Nitro is a fairly old line. The Nitro plus line and the current EVO line have since evolved. You got a fair deal on those nitro pieces since they are in nice condition and no pads needed to be replaced. I would not give over $500 for a nitro machine other than the leg press though since they are so common. There will always be awesome deals out there for the patient craigslist buyers with good search skillz or the lucky ones that run across desperate sellers.

Edit: I think "grumpytude" has that pulldown/row combo and liked it if I remember correctly. He hasn't been around here much lately though. Maybe he will see this and give you his opinion or you can look back through his post history.

I have to agree with Ray. Some of you are fortunate enough to live in an apparently absolute buyer's market. I have never seen anything on Craigslist worth owning in my home gym. My local market is filled with cheap ellipticals, treadmills, Bowflexes, and bench press sets. I have had to order everything I wanted online and pay significantly more than buying used, but I am happy with the equipment that I use every workout.

Several members have the much cheaper GLM83 BS lat pulldown and are satisfied, so I'm sure the far bulkier pro-version would be fine. I suggest perusing either of these two threads if you're primarily interested in higher-end pulldown machines. In the lower range, I've also heard good things about the standalone Powertec, which can be bought for around $700 shipped.

You probably won't get many responses regarding functional trainers. They (like their larger cable crossover brethren) tend to be expensive and bulky as hell, so not a lot of people have them.

As far as free shipping goes . . . you're always paying for shipping, it's just a question of whether it's already included in the price.

You might be ok with a Light Commercial unit as long as you don't expect it to feel like your Nautilus Nitro Machines, because it won't.

I can tell you those prices seem up there, I assume they are refurbished maybe? Either way, depending on what you are looking for and where you live, comparable pieces can be gotten cheaper.

    Regards,
Usedgymequipment.com (a guy named Brook) told me the dumbbells are troy 12 sided iron from 5 to 75 lb in 5lb increments. He said they came with a two tier rack but did not say what brand it was. I saw a good pic of the dumbbells and they look decent with a few minor scratches but no rust or chips. The rack looked pretty worn. It has a lot of deep scratches on it and had one (that I could see) very large dent in it on the bottom tier.

The machines he quoted me was not refurbished. He said they were cleaned and serviced. I ask him what that meant and he said that meant they cleaned them up and replaced anything that did not function and then sold it as-is with no warranty and no returns. The machines do not match in brand or color.

He sent me pics of the machines but they were shrink wrapped so it was very hard to see the exact condition. I ask him to take the wrap off but he told me if they did that it would cost me $50 more per machine due to the material and labor involved. That in itself made me a little nervous thus why I came here asking about them.

I have pretty much decided against buying from them since they are not willing to let me see the equipment unwrapped without an extra charge not to mention as you said the price is up there.

Yes, Nautilus nitro plus and Evo are later versions of equipment. I have used all three and like all three equally as far as function. The gym I bought the nitro from had Nitro plus and EVO but they wanted $800 per machine for the PLUS and $1,000 per machine for the EVO. Like I said "to me" there is no difference in function so I bought the cheaper version especially since I did not buy it to flip but instead to use.

Like you said I got a fair deal especially seeing how they delivered it and set it up for me. Most people (or company) would not even touch this type of equipment (heavy and bulky as heck) like that for $100. I can always get all or most of my $$$ back on them in my area due to the lack of dealers, gyms etc. here.

Yes, there are always GREAT deals to be had BUT... you have to be there to get them. For example: I could have got NITRO PLUS for $350 per machine but I would have had to spend the difference in gas, truck, time...etc....etc....and by the time I got it home and set up the savings would be gone thus the reason I bought the Nitro that was here close to me with more or less free white glove shipping. It was a no brainer to me. After all, I'm not opening a commercial gym....lol....just me and the wife and that's it.

I will try to contact "grumyptude" for info on that machine.

I have had to order everything I wanted online and pay significantly more than buying used, but I am happy with the equipment that I use every workout.
Exactly!!! Some live in areas where equipment is on every corner to be had for cheap. That does not make them wizards with mad skills it just simply means they have access to equipment without having to drive halfway across the country........simple as that.

My area is just as you described yours to be. LOL....most people here that have equipment to sell think ANY machine is worth it's weight in gold just because fitness is in.

There is a guy local to me that builds equipment as ordered but his equipment is like stepping back into the 60's. No kidding.....He has an old Arthur Jones pec deck and he wants $3,500.00 for it. LOL...that thing would take up half my workout area not to mention it is worth more as scrap.

A friend of mine scrapped several Arthur Jones machines out last year when metal was so high and he did pretty well. I cant remember exactly what all he had but if memory serves he had 17 machines but all of them needed a lot of repair and people were basically wanting him to give it away so like I said he scrapped it out. As a matter of fact he donated some machines to a local high school to be used in the welding classes.

I'm glad you have what you need and want. I hope to be at that point soon.

Thank you for those links. I will check them out and see what people had to say about said machines. I'm ok with less expensive equipment as long as it gets the job done so I look into those as well.

I figured cable crossovers and or functional trainers would not be something most have due to cost and space as you said but I'm sure "some" do so I ask just in case.

Once again. I'm glad you got a good deal. Heck, I hope you continue to get good deals as it does not affect me in any way. So, congrats on your great deals and good luck with your future training goals.

I was afraid of that. Problem is I have never used any light commercial equipment. My wife and I talked about it and we have decided to take a trip to try some of the light commercial machines. That way we know first hand if we like it or not.

BTW, I have also decided that I'm going to stay with stand alone machines unless I find a smith with attachments that really impresses me.

Thanks for taking the time to give you input.

My favorite (only used in the store) light commercial pieces are the Hoist PTS pieces. I would definitely look at those, but they are some of the more expensive light commercial pieces. They have a smith, lat, cable cross/personal trainer combo.

Never said the things you bought were not good. For the price you could have did better. Thanks for saying I seem childish thats some nice respect. . What kind of wizard am I though?

Its not only about the market you are in. What kind of search terms one uses helps immensely & following in the footsteps of those here helps too.

I spoke with a dealer today that has the hoist PTS in stock. This Saturday my wife and I are going to try it out. If we like it and the footprint will fit I will pay what he is asking.

You are right though, the hoist is a tad higher but that really does not matter to me if the equipment is quality.

    Thanks!

This will be the last time I converse with you "off topic". It is nothing more than a waste of time.

Never said that you did or didn't say the equipment was good or bad. As for them being good.... for the biggest part the ONLY difference in nitro, nitro plus and evo are cosmetics such as shrouds, cup holders etc....and the price tag.....they all function 99.9% the same and function (within reason) is the only thing that matters to me.

If I were to open an upscale commercial gym then yes, I would be looking for the prettiest equipment that functioned the best. But, since I'm only doing a home gym I am not so much worried about how pretty it is (not that there is that big of a difference in looks anyways.....unless someone really cares that much about a shroud and a cup holder).

As far as markets, search terms...etc...etc....I'm no newbie to that. Spent over 42 years in that as a career so your preaching to the choir as they say.

Having said that about the market, search terms etc....it does not matter how I search or where I search..........the equipment is still going to be hundreds of miles away from me so it is all pointless in my case. My area is not exactly equipment friendly to the buyer...simple as that.

Another thing you may want consider: everyone is not out to travel or spend countless hours to save a couple bucks. I worked many years so I would not have to do so. I'm not saying I am well off nor am I saying that your not..........I'm just saying I'm not looking to spend months on end buying and selling to trade-up a little at a time to reach my end goal with a home gym.

In short: I want to buy equipment at a fair price (not looking to find a desperate seller down on his luck) and be done with it. But hey, that's just me.

Anyways, I hope you can let this go at that. Any conversation off topic would be nothing more than a waste of my time as well as yours.

I will point out (not sure how old you are) that the older I get the more I realize time is more valuable than I once thought.

No hard feelings on my end so lets put what ever it is behind us an move on as we should.

time is important but there is always a trade off. just cause one saves time having it delivered or shipped, you still exchanged the time from working at a job etc. unless one is born rich. no such luck here .

as far as that body solid pulldown I believe I have read a few reviews on it here. since the search function isn't always good, you could type in google "site:forum.bodybuilding.com body solid (then the model #)"

    that should pul something up.

as far as the second part of your post I've owned a light commercial smith but I had been waiting for the pics from your other thread, and I guess I over anticipated more than I thought and felt a lil disappointed when I finally saw them. sorry if that over shadowed the rest of your post for me. but you are right I won't respond after this except to say its not cool to be rude and you being twice my age (my age was originally showing not sure what happened there) doesn't give a free pass for that to me. if I came across as rude in my original response then I apologize for that.

I own the body solid lat machine that you have pictured. I like it, no problems with it. It wouldn't be my first choice but since I needed something with a small footprint and that could fit through a regular doorway opening- it pretty much ruled out a lot of options I wanted ( Legend low row for example). The only draw back is that it is a mid-row machine which means when you start piling up on the weight stack that starts to reach your body weight -your center of gravity is higher so there is more of a tendency to start to lift off the seat (unlike a low row). But other than that no complaints. hope this helps

as far as the second part of your post I've owned a light commercial smith but I had been waiting for the pics from your other thread, and I guess I over anticipated more than I thought and felt a lil disappointed when I finally saw them. sorry if that over shadowed the rest of your post for me. but you are right I won't respond after this except to say its not cool to be rude and you being twice my age (my age was originally showing not sure what happened there) doesn't give a free pass for that to me. if I came across as rude in my original response then I apologize for that.
Yes, there is a trade off with time and anything but the older you get the less you will be willing to trade it off....unless you are in a situation that leaves you no choice.

In my opinion what dictates that is how well you plan for your financial future and your long term health. The more $$$ you stash back the less time you be willing to trade off in general (if that makes sense).

Most people your age do not think of that until it is to late. I was almost one of them....lol...I did not start my largest retirement account (60% of my current income) until I was 45 years old which meant I had to really, really sacrifice to build it up in time for me to retire due to me starting it late in life (a big mistake that CAN cause you to fall short). Don't be like me and so many more. Start now if you have not already.

Doing stuff like that WILL mean the difference between having to hunt for bargains or just buying something because you want it no matter the cost (within reason) due to convenience......that alone makes a huge difference when you are older and don't have that 30 year old supply of get up and go or good health. Trust me it goes fast...time, health and money.

Thanks for the tips on searching for equipment. Even us old dogs can learn tricks sometimes.

I think we just got off on the wrong foot (not the first time I've done that) but I have to say some of my best and dearest friends are people that I met in the same manner. So, if history repeats itself (like it usually does) we may become friends even if it is online.

I'm feel much better now and I hope you do as well.

I can see that you are a respectful young man. Thanks for being that way. I hope we have the chance to chat and share opinions etc...for a long time to come...lol...unless I kick the bucket as my doc says in a year or so......lol.....docs are not always right and I'm going to try my best to prove him wrong even if its just by months and not years.

The only draw back is that it is a mid-row machine which means when you start piling up on the weight stack that starts to reach your body weight -your center of gravity is higher so there is more of a tendency to start to lift off the seat (unlike a low row). But other than that no complaints. hope this helps
I'm kind of in the same situation (space). I could let a few machines go and make more room (and may do it) but I'm going to try and work it out so I have a commercial look and feel in my gym.

Thanks for your input as it gave me something to go by based on a real life personal experience.
