4 * 4 + 4 * 4 + 4 - 4 * 4 = ?
Could be just as easily expressed as:
(4 * 4 + 4 * 4 + 4 - 4 * 4) = 320
So, I decided to put those brackets there and voila it is 320.
Oh wait...
(4 * 4) + 4 * (4 + 4) - (4 * 4) = 144
But hold on...
(4 * 4 + 4) * 4 + 4 (- 4 * 4) = 68

Yep, depending on where you put the brackets you can get quite a lot of different answers.
No maths is ever expressed this way, without brackets. Guess why? Because you have no single/quantifiable answer to that. I have shown how 320, 144 and 68 can all be potential answers and there are many more possibilities.
