    I was card frauded.

Hello i was checking my bank account and saw 95.04 dollar charge. Found out it was from sears.com. Some one ordered a book economics of health care. Sears is refunding my money. The lady i spoke to thinks it came from a card reader at a gas pump. My bank said maybe an internet interception. So no more pay and pump for me. Im wondering if a site don't accept paypal if calling them and ordering will help protect me?

    Thanks Al

We have been hit a few times as well. We use Discover and Chase Visa and they call us with suspicious activities....and three times they were fraudulent transactions. Always pays to review the statements.

I was taken for just under $10K about a year ago.
The transaction was for google.singapore (fake company I assume) at 3am. They had taken a few dollars earlier in the day. My credit card company carried out an investigation and my account was refunded after about a month and a half.
The constultants assured me I had nothing to worry about but...the figure still showed as a debit against me until the issue was resolved. I cancelled the card the day it was all done.

My current CC company will often call me if I make a large transaction, out of town, or at an odd time of day. Good service; even though they are both backed by GE finance.

My wife actually has "photo ID only" written on the signature pane, in case someone ever steals it. Doesn't really help with online or phone transactions. Ahhhh technology.

It's a lot more common than you'd think and I've been hit with sears charges too.
The wife has had her account hacked probably three times in the last 10 years and mine has been hit at least three times. Now it's just cancel the card and get a new one issued. Wells Fargo has been pretty good about it and it hasn't cost us anything out of pocket.

My only advice is not keep everything in one account and be selective with where you use plastic/debit cards.
I've also been using the PayPal option when it's available (or Amazon checkout) and haven't had any issues with those two options.

I dealt with some CC fraud about 5 years ago. In the span of a month, between one AMEX bill to another, I was hit with about $3K in charges, all at gas stations in FL, GA, and LA. It was all taken care of eventually, but it took about 4 months.

Two years ago I dealt with fraud on my debit card. Actually a lot of local people dealt with it. Turned out that local Mexican restaurant employee was stealing people's card numbers and selling them to someone in Michigan (I live in KY). My bank called me about 2 hours after the transaction took place just to verify. The money was back in my account in less than a week.

I belong to a credit union for my personal and business banking. They'll call when they see something suspicious, so will Bank of America. They called me when I was in Florida on vacation and made a purchase with their card. My son's credit union debit card was hacked at an online site, he got his $$$ back.

I rarely pay with a card for gas purchases. I go to any 7-11 or supermarket chain and get cash there, or the credit union itself. Online, I buy mainly from Amazon, never a problem with them.

Update. It was a local person who made the purchase. It's in the police hands now. They wouldn't tell me who it was but they will give the police the info.

I was freaking out until the investigation was done and the debit was wiped from our account. Nearly $10k (on my personal card) of potential debt was quite danting.

What really incensed me was the last consultant I spoke basically laughed the whole situation off, saying "the banks insurance pays it out anyway"
In other words, WE the customers are paying indirectly for the fraud and the banks inability (or worse) to address the problem.

Make that 3 that agree with the guess.

It's hilarious; people who are afraid to shop on-line (you know, the sites with a lot of security) won't think twice about handing their card to a waiter/waitress, only to watch them walk away to go process (while dining out), etc... I've shopped on-line for almost 20yrs now (just got 2 early xmas gifts delivered today!), and I had ONE bad experience when a small business was taking $9 per month off my card...for a few months...before I noticed it.

I use my check card for almost every purchase I make in every day life, NEVER cash. I buy on-line probably 3 times per month, during that nearly 20yrs. $hit happens, but I never worry about on-line purchases.

I never use my debit card. AMEX only. They are the best IMO at resolving things quickly. At least the few experiences I have had. And I get points.

    This^^^.

The few times I DO use cash is at the gas station, where they charge $0.35 for ATM transactions... minor I know, but when they have MY BANK's ATM right there (which costs NOTHING) I just grab the amount I intend to put in the car and away I go.
Other than 'pocket change', that is pretty much it. ALL ELSE is done by card.
I just live so close to zero I need never worry about it... tho I DO check my account almost daily... just 'cause.

Agree 100%. Had my card compromised. They asked me what charges were bogus and had new card for me very rapidly. You're only liable for what is it $50 and they're almost certain to waive that for good customers. I charge everything everywhere I can to get reward credits.
There will come a day when I tire of listening to 80's music. That day is not today.
