Calories utilized throughout the day should already be factored into your TDEE.
So now, you don't compensate further.

what if, say you know that you are going to a party. so you do extra cardio, above and beyond your normal weekly routine. Is that a good way to compensate for the extra calories consumed?

If you're going to a party I suggest you just have fun and enjoy your time with friends, don't stress over trying to compensate for additional caloric intake in one instance.
If this is a frequent occurance (weekly/multiple times weekly) than you start getting to the point of needing to insure these calories are accounted for in your daily intake. But one night over the long term is not going to set back your results.

Yes, but he is talking about doing extra on top of that to allow for something he may consume that day which is fine.

Actually the way his question is stated, it appears OP is asking whether his caloric intake should be adjusted to compensate for calories burned during his workouts/physical activity on a daily basis (not just for one specific occurrence), in which case the correct answer would be NO, because his activity factor is already incorporated in TDEE (if calculated correctly utilizing the formula provided in the sticky threads)

Yes true, but then he asked the second question which made me think that's what he meant.

I know that when I put my exercise in MFP (I know some people don't but I do) it recalculates your macros up which means it wants you to eat them back (which I don't BTW). The way I see it is if you have your calories set to lose weight and already taking exercise into account I don't see why one couldn't eat back those exercise calories occasionally. Like I said, I don't usually do that though.

    EDIT: extra exercise!!!

    That's where the issue lies.
MFP should strictly be used for macronutrient tracking, not for calculating calorie needs (or intake for that matter)
Which is why I've stated that if OP (and even yourself could benefit from this) calculates his TDEE utilizing the more accurate formula provided in the sticky thread (as opposed to MFP) than there would be no need for adjustments based on daily exercise.

Which I have done. I don't go by what MFP gives me, I set these according to what I've worked out. Give me more credit than that!

All I'm saying is there would be nothing wrong with doing extra exercise to allow for a day of indulgence to make up for it. As long as it wasn't done on a regular basis.

That's what I was thinking. I do enjoy weekends with my friends with wings and liquor. I try to do "extra" cardio to compensate. Not sure if it's beneficial, but it makes me feel better when I do indulge.

Exactly! Cardio burns calories. There probably isn't a need to do it every time you are going to have a blowout but it makes the odd person feel better about it and not want to throw up everything they consumed in that blowout. I know if I'm going home to say have a beer I'll do cardio (which I don't normally do) to make up for it. Only because I'm on a cut and not bulking. If I was bulking I wouldn't give a toss!

If I would suddenly do an extra activity of a 1000 kcal that's not yet accounted for in my TDEE, I would definitely compensate for that by eating more.

After all I want to be bulking, I don't want to be cutting right now.

But, as others have said, exercise should normally already be accounted for in your TDEE.
