Best way is to have heavy weight days and low weight days, this program does this quite well:

^^ i wouldnt say the best way is to have both kind of days. Based on what?

generally you will grow muscle regardless.
    Lots of weighs are accepted.
Eg low reps heavy for strength training.

if you are an ectomorph who's trying to add some mass, i suggest you doing compound exercises with 6-8 reps, train 4 days a week, and eat alot

progressive overload and a good diet (with a good workout program that has compound movements with free weights) will build you muscle
Youíve put blood sweat and tears into this, after all these years, every set and rep that you pushed your hardest. Donít give up now.

For building muscle whilst having no concern of foundational strength or posterior & anterior chain development, you need to focus on repetitions, time under tension and correct form. This is the quickest way to sarcoplasmic hypertrophy

To profit from both of them, theres no scientifically proven to be better method so just go with both and gain all the benefits, plus cycling is good helps avoid boredom and increases motivation ^_^ for me at least
