Jaw Operation has left me gagging .......... cant eat..

    Hey..

Right, I had an operation on my Jaw to remove a severely impacted wisdom tooth which the root caused fractures.
Bits of bone sticking thro the gum area ... not very pleasant.

So had the extraction on the 9th Aug 2013 (extraction was lower left wisdom tooth) which has left the entire left side of my mouth completely NUMB with no taste or feeling, but the right side seems to be ok.

The issue im facing now is that i cant open my mouth as wide so tiny portions at a time which really drags out eating and the worst is that crewing now makes me gag all the time, tongue is getting bitten regularly aswell. I have to force myself to eat, with every mouth full i have to wash it down with water.

I now cant stand eating... where as before being 236lbs with 10% im now 214lbs

i can still drink my shakes and other smoothie style drinks ..... so should i up the intact of these?

Has anyone had this happen or can help with suggesting something to try? i tried the whole liquid diet thing and it was not the best tbh.

Im really not enjoying training and eating ATM :-(

Good idea. Wish there was more advice we could offer, however none of us have the credentials required to offer sound advice on this subject, as it really should be treated by professionals.

    I'd highly recommend against this.
Micronutrient deficiency will be a big concern.

that was my concern regarding shakes all day unless they are all natural ingredients in a blender.... which was like my liquid diet :-(

I posted up to see if any others have had this issue or similar and could offer the experience perhaps.

Its just getting me down ...... as i love my eating and training as we all do on here!

Definitely not, there are many micronutrients in whole foods you won't get, and a liquid diet is rough on your digestive system. However since eating is such a chore and is unpleasant for you, I would think that adding a shake into your daily routine may be helpful for you in getting your macro minimums.

When I trained for marathons I would drink shakes for that reason because I simply couldn't stomach 5,000 calories of solid food. Not a replacement, just a supplement. Are shakes really all that expensive in GB?

I had an op on my cheekbone/ eye socket a few years back, after a rugby injury.

I had a lot of home made soup and fruit juice to get as much variation in my diet as possible.

the rest was milk, icecream, whey protein, custard and yoghurt.
There is no substitute for hard work
