Hi everyone,
I have been taking protein shakes for a few months (I am still a gym newbie) and I honestly think my body has difficulty digesting protein shakes lol Digesting natural sources of protein is fine though.
At the moment, I am taking Gold Standard Optimum Whey Protein, I have one after every gym sesh. Although I hate the taste of it as well the fact that it literally makes me feel sick in the stomach, I force myself to drink it.
For about 30 minutes, I feel sick, but then I drink down a few glasses of water and eventually I am okay. However, when I take one before bed, I get the same feeling in the stomach again and within 5 minutes, I puke it all out.
Usually, this happens with lactose intolerant people, which I am not. I take 2 scoops per serving (48 grams of protein). I also asked the GNC cashier if there was anything wrong with my batch of protein powder to which he said 'No, the expiry date on the tub shows that it is fine until next year'.
My question is, should I continue taking protein shakes and not be such a pussy? or should I just consume natural sources of protein? (i.e. Chicken, fish, etc.) Are there any alternative options?
Thanks

He said he's not lactose intolerant.
Try a different form of protein than whey like soy, casein or egg until you find one that works better with your body."The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." Michelangelo

-first mistake, asking anyone at gnc for advice lol
-but seriously, if youre body cant handle this type/flavor of protein you can always try a different brand or different flavor from the same brand and see how your body reacts to that
-if you find that you also cant handle a different type of protein powder then it might just be best to get your protein from other sources even though the protein powder might be more convenientIron & Ice Cream.

I have tried three different types of whey protein and I end up feeling sick/puking each time. Would 48 grams be too much for a serving? Can the human body digest only a limited amount of protein in a certain period of time?
Really considering just eating meat and other natural protein sources now... Gonna be expensive haha

Dude don't force yourself to drink them if they make you sick. You can achieve the equal amount of gains without ANY protein supplement.

Find out what you protein intake is with what you normally eat, and compare that to what you actually need (.8g-1g/ lean body weight). If you find you're just a few grams under, eat a couple eggs, a couple more pieces of chicken, etc.
Protein drinks are great supplements if you don't have the time or resources to get in protein another way. I only drink protein when I find out my daily intake is too low, and I don't have time or the appetite to cook a piece of meat or egg. Mostly time, because I rather down chicken than a nasty drink.
Try different brands/flavors.

When I was training for a marathon I needed to eat 4,900kcals per day to keep from withering away. I had three shakes per day that was egg protein blended into chocolate milk. I hated having to eat so much damn food but those shakes were glorious. I mean come on, chocolate milk!
