Why not spend that money on real food?

However if you're set on buying protein, I'd suggest you shop around (especially on this here site) and compare prices/serving with other brands to ensure you're getting the best value for your money.

I agree, the stuff has become outrageous. However like initforfitness said just buy real food instead.

(Im assuming you are in the US) $54 for 5lbs is not a great price but it isn't that horrible either. I wouldn't pay more than about $10/lb.

I hear the calls for "thats expensive" and "why dont you just buy wholefoods" and agree to an extent but if you do the math, gram for gram whey protein is one of the cheapest quality protein sources out there. I've done the math and its a lot cheaper most cuts of meat, poultry and fish.

Whats unfortunate is the cost of why keeps rising due to global demand as its used in a lot of places including baby formula.

No one is arguing that value wise whey is a much cheaper alternative than most cuts of meat (or purchasing whole foods in general).
However for sanity and satiety sake I would much rather spend the money on something more filling.

For an isolate? That's a great price for an isolate, especially if it's high quality with > 80% percent protein per weight.

Where i am, costco had a sale on a good isolate and it was $38 for the 4.4lb tub. Usually though isolate is quite expensive and so i go for the blends.

I honestly went back on Wal-Mart protein and this wholesale Canadian Protein where they sell 25lbs for extremely cheap prices.

I mean they're all the same and protein = protein.

I'm having a stressful time with school full time and work part time, and all that so meal preparation is a bit meh lately.

When consuming processed fast food such as protein powder, buy the most inexpensive one.

If you're talking about the website with the same name, yeah, they've got great prices for whey with better composition than brand names. I've never tried them out, though, just because with stuff that sounds too good to be true, I'm a bit wary of the quality of their protein. Sure, they list the nutritional info, but I'm not sure how strict quality control is and whether powders actually meat the listed information. Obviously, there's really no way for us to tell.

    It is that website.

The taste is terrible, and the mix-ability takes more than a few strokes (luls), but protein is protein. As a student, I have no choice but to save up.

It is legit, they actually do packaging for other companies and re-sell for better profit.

In no way do I work for Canadian Protein company/wholesale, this is purely non-advertising and just for other people to be aware of inexpensive protein as I do not believe in high-end marketing supplemental companies making profit off unawares. Please do not ban/report.

Dude let me tell you.. I have two 5 pound jugs and 2, 2 pound jugs. I use probably 3-6 scoops a day. (cooking and shakes) The 5 pounder lasts so long, ive had it for well over a month. So worth it. Cheapest source of protein. Just make sure you get the flavor you like because having 5 pounds of flavor you dislike is going to make your life miserable. Ide suggest trying some two pounder flavors. Optimum Nutrition makes great tasting whey. My new favorite is Musclepharm Assault. Next ide like to try Cellulor. Cheers.

Do you know which companies? And where did you get that info? In any case, they could still have two "versions", the lower and the actual legit one, but that does indeed make it sound like it's alright.

Meh, I got the Chocolate... but I still miss my Rocky Road from ON.

I called them on their toll-free number. AFAIK, Dymatize from what the rep told me. They said most stevia-based protein are made from them and they just package them out.

Appreciated. Well, luckily I can spare those extra couple of bucks to get ON and Dymatize, although I have been thinking of trying some of this out due to the better nutritional profile (i.e. a greater percentage protein per weight, so even more bang for the buck).

I agree whole foods are better for satiety. I get most of my protein through meals (Greek yogurt ftw). However, to hit my macros I need to go above and beyond my meals and whey protein drinks work perfectly.

It's interesting to note that at one time, whey was thrown away, as it was considered a useless byproduct of processing milk into other dairy products.

Until somebody figured out that bodybuilders would pay an arm and a leg for it.
    No brain, no gain.

Actually, the dairy industry still remains the biggest user of whey (as an ingredient for various milk products)

It's amazing how successful the supplement industry has been in selling a processed fast food composed in the vast majority from a waste product of cheese production.
