    Yeah, I've been tested, lately.

Rabid cleaning and purging of stuff makes me feel lighter and somehow less stressed. Can't explain that one.
TV binge watching--watched two seasons of Scandal a couple of weeks ago.
Had a nice walk through the botanical gardens yesterday--Nature helps a lot.

Activities that don't require a lot of brainwork...

I have a problem recognizing when I'm stressed.
When being stressed has become a way of life, um, you tend not to notice it anymore.
Need someone to keep me in check and not be such a control freak about things.
Let someone else drive for a while.

    Working on it.
Move along. Nothing to see here.

Depends on what the stressor is. If it's my personal life, I usually run away to work. Accomplishing things in my career makes me feel better about everything else going to chit.

If it's something to do with work, I'm really fortunate to have an awesome roommate that is always ready to get ice cream, watch really stupid tv or walk downtown to the bars. Medial things to help pass the time and remind myself that I have way too much to be thankful for, often more than I probably deserve.
If it is important to you, you will find a way.
If it's not, you will find an excuse.

i use writing as an outlet for stress, as well as ice skating. writing helps me express whatever i am stressed about, and it gets those internal feelings outside of myself, onto paper. ice skating helps because i don't think of anything or anyone when i do it..it's a total escape.

music and reading in combination can also help...reading something beautiful/touching reminds me that life is great, and helps put my own situation into perspective. music relaxes and soothes me.

    hope your stress subsides asap!!

I handle it very poorly in general, but exercise always helps for a little while, a hot bath with my Kindle, a massage, ice cream (haha). I have a hard time stepping away to do those things when I feel like the to-do list is a mile long, though. In practice, I just try to pound away at whatever is overwhelming me and make some headway.

I am a fairly organized person..have to be most of time
so you got stuff written all over the place
when to send out bills..when the car insurance is due
    you schedule the dentist appointments
get regular oil changes on the vehicle
then there is the holiday stuff your right down
upcoming birthdays and cards to send out
then there are things like schoolwork..tests to study for
    papers to write
then there is exercise which must also be fit in..
and whether or not to pick up a part time job
and how to shop for a new car..
and plan menu for the week
and pay attention to my son's homework getting done
    did I do the laundry???
holy cow did I take out anything for dinner ??

This sounds like me. LOL I got to a point last week when I've been really busy with work. Which is a good thing but being busy means having more editing and proofreading to do(I'm a court stenographer) and less time to do it because I keep getting stuck on long deps. By the time I work out and get home and deal with the kids' homework and gymnastics and other social activities, make sure they are fed, bathed, lunches made....I'm just done. And I say to myself, "I'll buckle down and get to work and get all these pages done tomorrow." Until tomorrow is the same thing. Throw on top of it that I've reached my limit with my living situation and my divorce and I want it all to just be over sooner rather than later. So I've been a crazy person getting things together, and dealing with my attorney who I'm about 3 seconds away from firing. I decided to just take a couple days off. I had a counseling appointment on Thursday and I don't take deps on Fridays so I took today off as well. I got caught up on work, probably didn't spend as much quality time with the kids as I should have but I will hopefully have learned my lesson and will start to focus better(I say this every pay period but it never seems to happen LOL) I have a ton of other things on my mind as well but right this second, I feel a lot better than I did on Wednesday when I was about to have an anxiety attack.
    Danielle xoxo

I am terrible at dealing with stress. I usually let things eat me from the inside out, until I have a full blow out. I have tried to work on it, without much success.
Working out is my main stress relief. Other things include:

    - If I am very stressed at work, I'll walk somewhere for lunch. I am always cooped up in my office so some fresh air is always a good change.
    - If I am stressed at the end of the day, I'll take a very long bath before bed.
    - If I've had a very stressful week, on the weekend I'll go for a pedicure or a massage.

In general I prefer to decompress with some alone time rather than see other people. I prefer to spend time with friends when I am in a good mood, not when I am some kind of ogre.

i'm the same way...i need to take alone time so i can recharge, and be ready to take on the world again! being around people when i'm stressed just adds to my mind clutter.

also, i totally agree with walking in the fresh air to take away stress...i always feel so much better when i'm just out, looking at nature, walking and feeling free.

Getting outside for a walk seems to really help me - even if I can only manage 10-15 minutes. The change of scenery helps me reboot so-to-speak. I'll take a 10 minute walk a couple of times during the work day if I feel myself getting stressed and losing focus. When I'm stressed, I tend to need alone time just to let my brain slow down a bit and regroup mentally.

Reading for fun (vs work or school) is another thing I've done since college which helps me de-stress before bed. Having some book which I'm reading just for my own pure enjoyment helps me relax and fall asleep. I started this when I was in undergrad and was having difficulty falling asleep because of school work on my mind. So, I gave myself permission to spend 30 minutes each evening reading something for pure enjoyment instead of reading something class. The habit has stuck with me over the years.

If things get really bad, I'll actually take a full day off of work (a mental health day) and regroup with some focused alone time while everyone else is out of the house. Reading a book, drinking tea and maybe a massage and an extra long workout during the day when the gym isn't crazy busy.

The best way to deal with stress is to avoid things that trigger it in the first place.

    - Remove people from your life who have nothing positive to contribute.

    - Compartmentalize different things in your life. Ex: Keep your professional life out of family life.

    - Take on only as much as you know you can handle (workload).

LOL that's a pretty nihilistic way to look at life.

I try to put everything in perspective and accept whatever's going on. That way I can deal with stuff better than with a cluttered mind. Also, I need a balance between my social life and at least one day a week of perfect solitude, to reload my batteries.

    Other things:
    - comfort food, ranging from spaghetti to cupcakes to green smoothies (I think they're yummie and they make me feel lighter and more focussed)
    - painting, drawing, writing and reading with a glass of wine and some music
    - working out
    - watching shows and movies
    - yoga and meditation
    - sex and/or solo-time
    - go to a coffee shop or a park to drink a coffee and read all by myself

This, true it is somewhat nihilistic; but if one considers the world essentially empty then one is free to fill it with whatever one finds pleasing(peacefulness in my case.)

OMG so this!!! I went through a phase in life when I thought more friends, any friend, was better. I collected a whole lot of dead weight that way, people who only want to take advantage, emotional parasites, constant whiners, etc. A couple of years ago I finally started cleaning up house in that department. Best thing I ever did.

Did it a couple of years ago myself. Most of it was actually family getting me involved in squabbles between each other and calling me to be the voice of reason. Had enough crap of my own at the time and told them to leave me out of it! Best thing I ever did!
