Well, it has been just under a year for me. I am getting back into the sport after a decade or so layoff. I let life get ahead of me and after ripping out my acl, really let my body go. On my 39th birthday I decided I would not be a slob when I hit 40. I believe I was more of less successful. Here are a couple shots after about a month of training. I was weighing in at 250#;
Today I weighed in at 197# and went out to document my progress. Here is where I am as of this morning at 40 years old;
My thighs are slightly larger than when I started and I believe I have put on muscle mass during my year long cut. I lost one pound a week and trained four times a week with weights.
I see I need more calves, more lats and less fat still. I intend to clean bulk from here up to 225# and then cut next summer for my first shot at competition.
Thanks for all the input and encouragement many of you provided...even if it was just me looking at your own posted transformation pics.

Thanks all! I have a long ways to go to get where I want to go, but I am typically patient and determined. I hope to post pics this time next year at 210# at single digit bodyfat.
I'll say this; is does feel great to not be self conscious without a shirt at the beach again!
Also, about those calves...I've been doing 5 sets of 6-12 reps twice a weak for them along with the same for about every other bodypart. That volume load has worked on all my other muscles, but those calves are stubborn. Any thoughts on this? I have only a legpress to do calve presses on at the moment in my garage gym.

Unless it is obvious to anyone who isn't blind that you lift weights, you might still benefit from a little more attention to big basic barbell exercises for enough reps:).

Fantastic job man...it's life changing when those fleeting reflections in a mirror or store window fill you with pride rather than shame, well it has been for me.
As for those calves, i do very little lifting for mine due to old foot injuries, but what i do is, at least twice a week while sitting in front of the computer, is contract my calves by simply lifting up onto my toes and squeezing as hard as i can for 5 seconds, then relax for 5 seconds, rinse and repeat, and i'll do this for as long as i can. You'll be amazed how fried those pesky calves will get, and i've been very impressed at the progress mine have made. While probably not optimal if you're able to lift the weights, but maybe worth a go to supplement your usual calf workout.
