a few days ago, i had one of these,
so i decided to do some of this,
and ended up with one of these,
which turned into this,
this,
and this,
done a full heat treatment on this bish, and its been sharpened to hair-shaving sharpness. made of 5160 spring steel (duh). 10" blade (exactly 10"), 16" overall.
the finish on the surface of the blade is actually a mirror finish (only in the last pic. other were taken before finish was done. doesnt show up in the pic very well) but with the hammer/forge marks and pockmarks etc still on the surface, giving it a bit of a dirty look.

good question. i dont remember. i've always had a bit of a thing for knives, but only last year got really into it. only got an opportunity to use a mates forge just this week, so i decided to go for it. i've done other work with steel before, but never the sorts of detail/precission needed to make a nice tool like a knife

used angle grinder for most of the work, brought it in close with an orbital sander with a 40 grit pad, made sure it was fine enough to work on with a whetstone before the heat treatment, then just got rid of the scaling from the heat treatment and touched it up with my stones and she was bangin
its just over 1/4" thick, techinally 4.416/16" (measured by caliper)*says 'negged' but doesnt actually neg crew*
