how do you make beans and rice less bland?

black beans and brown rice and lean ground poultry are my main take-to-work lunch staple.

what sorts of things do you all like to add?

sometimes i add a little bit of cheese, and chili powder.
other times I wrap it all up in a whole wheat tortilla.

i am low on creativity and don't have other ideas. I am lacking in knowledge of how to use seasonings and spices effectively.

Using chicken broth in place of water really gives it some flavor, with almost no fat or calories added.

There are two ingredients that when added to beans and rice together will make it tolerable, good even. The first is bacon, the second is more bacon.

I like where this is going with the addition of pork products!

If you want to spice it up a little, get some Sriracha sauce. It's basically Vietnamese ketchup and has a nice kick.

Here is a particularly good and very simple recipe.

You'll need bacon, beans and rice.

First, fry the bacon. You can add seasoning, such as pancakes with maple syrup, or eggs, fried bread, sausages and black pudding.

Next, throw away the beans and rice.

    Enjoy!

I'd think body builders must eat more spicy chilli etc than anyone, as we repeatedly try to add taste and variety to the likes of baked chicken and daily steaks.

Just for fun, I was planning on trying wrapping jalapeño peppers in bacon later today.

    Kidney beans.
    Coconut milk
    Veg stock
    chilli
    garlic
    salt pepper to taste
    rice.
    Chopped scallions
    4 hot chillis

Fry the scallions with the chilli and Garlic until soft.
Add the coconut milk, stock, beans and rice (ratio is 1 rice to 2.5)
    Bring to the boil.
    Stir once.
    Put on the lid.
DO NOT OPEN THE LID OR STIR.
    Simmer for 20 min.
    Enjoy with jerk chicken.

On a roll so here is some easy bread.

    500 ml Yoghurt.
    500 grams self raising flower
    chillis
    corriander.

Add the yoghurt and flower to a bowl and get yucky.
Once all the yoghurt and flour are mixed and you get a big dough ball. Cover with flour and cling film for about 30 min.
Pull off a chunk of dough, cover the bench with some flower and chopped corriander and roll into the size of an indian naan bread.
This will pick up the corriander and chilli when rolling.

Place on grease proof sheet and grill for a few mins a side. BOOM... easiest bread you will ever make and super fast.

Ride it like you just stole it.

I occasionally add a can of Tuna fish to it
    often add crushed chili

not sure if HP sauce is available where you are, but that added to anything is good in my opinion
some of that on Flounderbouts breakfast would also be my preference

I just tried cooking a couple of chillis wrapped in bacon. F*** me, they were hot! Thankfully I had used the rest of the pack of bacon to make two sandwiches to help cool things down afterwards.

    ^^^^This

Or, I was going to say ham hock or salt pork - can't make proper beans without one of these ingredients!!! Then you can add red pepper flakes, Tabasco or chilis - yum!

    Why so masochistic?

You'll get fat eat enough of that pap to get a surplus. The lack of fat in that purgatorial diet is a problem if you want enough test to move north of vag.

You can get lean on Steak and eggs if you eat a deficit. And the natural saturated fats will boost test production better than any over the counter supplement.

So long as you get enough protein and natural fats including the saturated fat in steak, whole eggs, whole milk and dairy including butter, etc you make up the remainder of your calorie requirements with whatever the hell you want, including high carb stuff and dessert.

If it fits your macros, it is virtuous.

Next, throw away the beans and rice.

    Enjoy!

However I will admit that beans and rice can be perfectly healthy if you add enough meat. Especially if you reduce the amount of beans and rice depending on how lean you want to be, if that is a priority.

I know I don't belong in this section but I seen it on the front page.

For rice I would highly recommend using Mushroom Soup, tastes so good, and you could probably mix it up with the black beans to.

Yup, sauté bacon in olive oil. A few cloves of fresh garlic, a 1/2 green pepper, 1/2 onion and you're there. Some oregano, basil as well.

I like my beans and rice mixed with ground beef then add tomato sauce. Not sure if that tastes good to others but Im no fan of rice and the sauce helps a lot.
