MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. -- A suspected car thief who was in the middle of breaking into a pickup truck was shot and killed by the truck's owner in Maple Valley early Tuesday morning, King County Sheriff's deputies said.
The 27-year-old thief, who family identified as Blake Moore, and his girlfriend were already driving a stolen Honda with stolen plates when they pulled up to a home in the 21800 block of SE 236th Place just after midnight, deputies said.
As the man then began breaking into a pickup truck, the truck's owner came out to walk his dog and confronted the thief, according to investigators. Guns were drawn, and several shots were fired.
The thief ducked behind the truck he was trying to steal, but was still struck several times and died at the scene, deputies said.
The truck owner's aunt hailed her nephew, who is a former Marine, as a hero for saving her life as the bullets began flying.
"He shoved me out of the way when the guy was going to shoot at us," said Kristen Hague. "Looked like (the thief) had a gun and pushed me out of the way and yelled 'gun!' and I don't think if he would have done that, I would be alive... I think he was defending me -- I totally see it."
She said her nephew was definitely justified in fatally wounding the thief.
"My life was in danger; my nephew's life was in danger, and he did the right thing even though it ended really bad and really sad," Hague said.
She said despite the thief's attempt to shoot them, she went to his side and did CPR until medics could arrive.
"There was a guy on the ground dying and it was instinct and...I just went in and started doing compression on his chests...until help got there," Hague said. "It was all I could do."
Detectives say they recovered at least two weapons from the scene -- a .45 caliber apparently used by the thief and a 9 millimeter from the man who shot the suspect.
His alleged accomplice was arrested and police say she had a felony warrant for burglary.
Meanwhile, police questioned the man who shot the thief, then released him.
Hague said she's not surprised he would come to her defense.
"Even though he was a Marine, he would have done that anyway. He loves his aunt."

Just another clear example brahs, arguing about stance/caliber is meaningless... all that matters is shot placement.
In with the voice of reason, it's a societal issue, you (the US) are at the point now where trying to remove guns isn't an option... easier access to more guns isn't the solution either. What you need is long term societal change, address the issues which cause crime along with the tools used to commit it.
Crime has increased because our culture has changed brah, same as in the rest of the world over that period, it's not as easy as saying "criminals arent afraid because we don't have guns" like some people like to, criminals were NEVER afraid. I REALLY wish we had a more open and accepting shooting culture here but I do feel a lot safer knowing that most of my friends will live and die having never even seen an unholstered weapon, let alone been shot at.Last edited by DatPass; 09-26-2013 at 06:57 AM.

Of course you can get all those things, you can get a gun in the UK as well. However considering the reprecussions for getting caught with a gun here it's only the very serious criminals/gangsters who get them, and they're not likely to be interested in robbing your car or house.

Here we go. you're going to get multiple responses to your potato reasoning.
Criminals and gangster don't rob people? Ok jeff
Reprecussions don't stop people. Drug convictions are felonies and that leaves you screwed. And as a felon you can't even be around a gun, let alone carry one, they still do it.Guys go for looks, Girls go for status

In England if you get caught with class A or B drugs unless its a **** load you're getting a few months in prison maybe a year if you're really unlucky. Hookers don't go to prisons and neither do the punters, again maybe a few months to a year in nick if you're unlucky.
Carrying a fire arm or weapon carries an automatic minimum 7 year sentence. Guns are not easy to get because it's just not worth the jail time to most people, why sale guns @ £1000 a pop on the street, which can then be traced back to you if they are used in a violent crime and you get charged with conspiracy to murder when you could just as eaily sale £1000 worth of weed/coke and get 50 hours of community service if you get caught.
Not saying I agree with it but in the Uk especially you can't really compare drugs to guns.

obviously they do, there are almost zero handgun related crimes in Canada for example since our get tough on fire arms laws were put into place...
sarcasm people, the liberals attempted to confiscate all firearms from the Canadian populace with our gun registry and if someone ever attempted to do what this marine did here he would be up on murder charges.Last edited by TriggerWarning; 09-26-2013 at 08:49 AM.

This. They don't understand that 99% of robbers/criminals aren't taking the risk of doing 7 years in prison for possessing a gun when all they wanted to do was steal a car or a laptop. If the sitation in the OP happened in the UK, no one dies, no one is lucky to not have died, the robber simply runs away.

By gangsters I'm talking about people moving thousands or millions of pounds worth of drugs, they're the type of criminals in the UK who have guns, and they want to keep a low profile.
If I was able to get a gun, it would also mean every idiot could also get one, and then you end up with thousands of gun related deaths.PC Master Race
