That bothers me too. Any time I see dumbbells laying around...if they are there when I get there and still there when I get finished my workout, I'll put them back.
The part that irritates me more is people that can't put them back in the right place. The rack has labels for which dumbbells belong there, now granted many of the dumbbells individual weight label has worn off, but if you just put them where they belong...and if you aren't certain, you can compare the plates on these dumbbells to figure it out. The other day I grabbed the 35 lb dumbbells the other day and wondered why I felt weaker. Went back to re-rack them and noticed that someone placed the 37.5 lb dumbbells where the 35 lb dumbbells belong. I'd rather have them leave them on the floor if they can't figure it out then put them in the wrong place.

Both of these. And to add to it people who don't take the plates off the machine when they are finished using it...ESPECIALLY the leg press. Thank you for wasting my workout time whilst I drag all of 12 plates off the machine so I can warm up with just a plate a side. Jeeze...
Thankfully the boys at the gym are starting to clean up their act when I'm around. Yesterday I watched a guy scuttle back to clean his machine when he saw me coming. It cracked me up actually. I don't even remember correcting him for it before but apparently I have!

There are two bars you could use for the squat rack (which one a person could use for squatting and someone else could use one for deadlifts or something). This guy takes both bars and loads up weight on both of them right behind the squat rack. So he's not using the squat rack and making it pretty impossible for someone else to use it. Then he deadlifts with both bars. Then he leaves and uses different machines (while keeping his juice bottle and stuff by the two loaded bars) and keeps coming back to do more deadifts. A couple times he would go outside the gym to chat with people and then comes back and does a few more sets. I was at the gym for an hour and a half and he took up the squat rack the whole time. Annoyed the fuk out of me because I wanted to squat, but I couldn't even use a bar. He does this a lot.
Not sure if I should just be an ass and unload one of the bars and just start squatting.

Jim-jams got rustled big time today. Probably the maddest I've gotten at someone in the gym before - second only to some chick who tried to repeatedly talk to me while I was in the middle of pull-throughs.
Lifted heavy 3 days in the past 2 weeks, was on deload today. Went up to top set of 225 x 4 @8.5 but hip flexor was getting tweaky so dropped last set to 205 and wanted to concentrate on perfect form. Get my tunes set to the right song, chalk my hands, start camcorder as per my usual set-up and get focused while putting belt on in rack. In my zone. I notice a body to my rear right. I ignore - I'm in my zone. Body starts to talk, probably to me - so shake my head "no" so they know to F-off cause I'm lifting. Put hands on bar about to get under to squat. DUDE TAPS MY SHOULDER!!
OMFG, I turn around and fiery daggers of death shoot from my eyes as I ponder how to stop myself from smashing old man's face in as he goes on with some chit-chat shiz, completely oblivious to my fury. Holy crap I was pissed the F off. I almost asked him in a quiet, slow voice if the Fing building was on fire, otherwise never do that again. Instead I managed to hold my composure enough not to be totally socially unacceptable. But it threw my groove off and I had to mentally reset to approach the bar again later to focus on actually squatting. Bastard.
And got it on tape, lulz.

What did he want? I couldn't tell from the vid. You say just 'chit chat', but I'm astonished that someone could be so clueless...

I've seen him once before, maybe 2 months ago. He asked me why I lift, etc. I said I PL'd, but didn't talk long cause I said I was in a rush and had to get my training in (like usual). So today apparently he just wanted to know how my "powerlifting competition" was going, blah blah blah. RIGHT THEN instead of a normal person who would wait till after a set. Yes, completely clueless he was

I have to give you credit, I think I would have given him some serious chit for that. I'm glad you got it on film, it's hard to believe. It's not like you were going to do 500 squats or something. How impatient do you have to be to stop someone from their set to talk about that?

It sucks that he messed up your set but the poor heart really didn't get it. I find that the older generations don't really understand the gym etiquette when it comes to interrupting people's workouts. I see it all the time with my clients, the older ones have absolutely no problem getting into a long conversation about laundry detergent mid set where as my younger clients are fuming when anyone holds us up for any reason. He probably just has a little crush on you I think if you told him very gently that your training requires a lot of focus but you're happy to talk to him once you're through he may get the hint. I've had to pull a couple people aside for the same reason myself.
Edit: I do feel that you handled it well btw. I would have been fuming myself and I don't know if I would have kept my tongue in check as well as you did! Haha!Last edited by AnnalisaLynn; 03-06-2014 at 02:39 AM.

When people highlight an issue, and instead of dealing with it themselves, pass it on to you because they are soooo busy themselves. At this rate I'm not going to make it Fridays gym session.
And people who write entire paragraphs and only use one full stop - f**k sake.-101,221, I can see the light - thanks

Sometimes I really have to wonder about that. I've seen too many times where older guys will get away with murder because people try to give them the benefit of the doubt / be nice cause they are old. I've had an old guy supposedly trip and fall into my lap. Okay, that may have been an accident (highly doubtful), but sorry...it shouldn't have taken as long as it did for him to get off me. And I made the mistake of being nice and talking to this old guy that goes to the gym. He literally only goes to the gym to talk...spends 55 minutes talking to whomever is willing to be nice and listen and then spends 5 minutes with a dumbbell (don't think I've ever seen him do a rep). Didn't realize what I was in for just by being nice and talking to him. Now if I'm working out, he will interrupt me mid set so he can talk. Then he will apologize for interrupting my workout and say he will let me get back to it...only to do the exact same thing 5-10 minutes later. He starting to ask me questions that aren't any of his damn business (like what day / time I will be at the gym so he can be there and what am I doing with my cell phone). And then the part that really freaked me out the most is that the last time I made the mistake of talking to him, he decided it would be perfectly acceptable for him to caress my face (cheek). WTF!!!! I hardly even know this guy, yet somewhere in his deluded mind he feels he has the right to go up to people he hardly knows and touch them. They pull this crap cause they know they can get away with it...cause nobody wants to be the mean person that picks on a poor, harmless old guy.Workout Log / Chat thread...Embrace the Dragon: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=169711903

A few months ago I had a similar situation...some "neighbors" came to my house to question me on if my child was seeing a doctor and to tell me that "their cousins baby had exczema too and she had creams that they put on it and now its gone"...then threatned to call CPS on me because they didnt feel like my child was getting proper medical care....
I was like WTF not that its any of your business, but my child has 5 differnt docs that we see. Pedi, derm, 2 allergists and and an endo..... I have a BINDER full of doc notes, medications, appointment and lab results... etc from since this child was born.
On top of that its not just "exczema" its dermotagraphia.... which only 5% of the population has... so yeah bring on the CPS because a "cream" doesnt work on her...
On top of that she is allergic to 3 pages of foods and enviromental factors... of which only a small percentage i can control. Cant stop the world from growing grass and tress ya know.
Its frusturating as all get out when people think they can "diagnose" the issue and dont know the he ll that you have gone through with docs and getting her diagnosed and treated... just for them to want to call CPS.www.bikinisandbiceps.com

It doesn't bother me and I sometimes wish I could get away with having my hair down...but most of the time, it gets in the way.
Actually the way I wear my hair is extremely dependent on what my workout will be. If I'm doing dragon flags, I prefer to have my hair down. If I'm doing any bench work, I need my hair in a dutch braid. The other days, I can either have it in a pony tail or a pony tail braid.Workout Log / Chat thread...Embrace the Dragon: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=169711903

Well no if someone is invading your personal space and touching your face (I would die a little inside) I don't think that you have to roll over and take it just because he/she is old. You have to set your boundaries. If you don't want him to interrupt you during your workout don't be afraid to say so. Being frank doesn't necessarily mean you are being rude.
I thought of you yesterday actually because I was standing in line at the deli and this old man behind me practically had his face on my shoulder pretending to look at the food display. I gave him the benefit of the doubt at first but when we moved right in front of the display he was still doing it. I moved forward. He moved forward. I moved again. He came right back up against me. It was if he was trying to smell my hair or something. So I just turned around and gave him a very stern look and then stood sideways holding my basket in my left hand so he had to remain a basket's length away. :P He got the hint. Jimmies were very rustled though. I get seriously aggressive when people invade my personal space.

You are absolutely right. I definitely have to set boundaries and hold people to them. Just most of the times these things will happen, it will catch me so off guard that I don't react. I think it really has to do with the environment. If it had been at a club / bar...I definitely would have reacted, cause I'm used to that type of stuff there, but wasn't expecting it at the gym. Needless to say, he won't be trying it again cause I will be making him aware that it is completely inappropriate...but fortunately, I'm good at avoiding and haven't had to deal with him since then.
That is super creepy what that guy pulled at the deli. You handled it really well, I need to be more that way. Just have to wonder sometimes, what is going on in their heads that they think any of that is acceptable behavior. And what do they think they are going to get out of it?Workout Log / Chat thread...Embrace the Dragon: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=169711903

That's true. I'd never expect someone to be that forward at the gym but you're an attractive girl so you never know when someone is going to take a shot! It's funny though because people like that can almost smell it on you if you're gentle enough to let things like that slide. I've had enough of it to make me finally learn that it's not ok and I'm fully in my right to be firm. More often than not they don't even bother coming back around because the thrill is over.
And I have no idea what they get out of it or why they think it's ok. All I can say is that only age can give you that kind of confidence! I've had younger guys do silly things to get my attention but only the older ones have gone the extra, inappropriate mile.
