This story probably has some link to racism. In this scenario, I could picture it, classic profiling and stereotyping.
-White woman at home alone
- Large black man (football player) runs to door in a frantic haze
- Woman calls cops: "*** is going to rhape me and slit my throat halpppp"
- Cops come, see guy, he runs towards them (probably in shock still from the accident)
- Poorly trained white cop pisses pants and starts blasting
I've been in situations with physical aggression (or possibility of it) with officers and I have never been in any type of law enforcement training. Last time it was a incident with a disabled client who was having a episode of breaking up the house he lived in. Two cops come in with tazers drawn. There was what seemed to be a assitant/new officer there with a older one. The guy came in, looked at the disabled client and about shot me and the client with a tazer. I had to yell "DONT SHOOOOOOOT US *******!!!!!!, its ok, hes not going to hurt you". Cops asked me to physically restrain him and help them take him out to be mechanically restrained. I would have tried to sue the pants off them if those pansies had tazed me for no reason. (was just sitting in the room, didn't move once)
What kind of rushed, poor training do depts/aca put new officers through these days???FC: 2466-2670-1205

Why do all police officers need to carry guns? Wouldn't it make more sense for certain teams of police officers to have guns, why would traffic cops need a gun?

Tragedy, guns should be the last option police use.

The story says the cop fired his taser and was unsuccessful. Now in every first hand and video exposure to a taxing, they generally don't just pull it and fire, there's a lot of 'im going to tase you' before they finally pop someone. Why was it unsuccessful, did it not hit him or did it hit him but the taser didn't take him down. We'll be generous here and say that the taser missed.. But even after the warnings of the 3 cops, the pop of a tazer, this guy is still coming at them, by account of 2 of the officers, running.
So to recap, a large football player, in a wreck, leaves the scene, attempts entry to and apparently harasses someone in their home, tried to take on 3 cops at a run and didn't stop after probably multiple warnings and a tazer, cop ends up having to use his pistol to defend himself.
So i'm missing something..how is the cop the prick in this?

Only manslaughter is bull****, but I guess it goes with the job.
Their family should get a heavy amount of cash coming their way for an officers mistake. He'll be out in a couple of years.

Well the police officer who shot him has been charged with a felony. It's tragic for all involved. From what I can gather the man should not have had lethal force used upon him. I don't see why race has anything to do with this.
People want to make it about race all the time. If the cop who **** him is black, would it still be "racist" then??
Not everything all the time is about race.

US police seem pretty highly strung. This may be because I don't live there and only hear news reports, but as long as I can remember there seems to be steady stream of news reports of police using extreme aggression on someone who turns out to be innocent.
I even heard that one of my eccentric (but harmless)elderly lectures got assaulted in Georgia and thrown in jail with serious criminals. Why? For jay walking and daring to ask some dude barking orders at him for ID.
What's the police training like in the US? is there much done on dealing with conflicts/ assessing situations?(serious question)UK Crew
