Carbs or no carbs post-BJJ training at night?

Hi, I wonder if you can help as I'm a little confused.
I train BJJ 3x a week, 2 are night sessions finishing at 10 and I usually go to bed soon after once I'm in the door. I was thinking about having a shake before bed. I did some reading and casein seemed to be the pre-bed shake but after asking someone in my class they recommended an all rounder (Hurricane XS from MYProtein), it has 20g of carbs in it. Since training I'm losing weight/fat and I'd like to continue to do so, I'm worried carbs before bed would make me put on fat/weight. Any advice or more info to point me in the right direction would be good.

Op, what matters is that by the end of the night you hit your macros. When I was cutting i saved a lot of calories around my bedtime so I could go to sleep feeling full. Head over to the nutrition section and read the stickies.

Carbs at fine at any point in the day. Your body does not know what time it is. As mentioned above, hit your macronutrients and you're golden. You also don't need casein, whey is fine.

This would have been exactly what I would have said^

Personally I like eating more at night so I don't wake up in the middle of the night with cravings

IIFYM has nothing to do with this question of whether or not to eat carbs before bed.

Carbs before bed is fine. It's a larger issue of how many total calories you're intaking vs what you are burning.

Prebed shakes are largely unnecessary, but if you wish to factor them into your diet that's perfectly acceptable.
