    knee warmup post acl surgery

    Hey all,

i had acl reconstructive surgery in dec 2011. ive gained most of my muscle back that i lost in my leg due to atrophy but lately when ive been doing back or front squats my knee has been killing me. Before i squat i do the treadmill for 3 min and a couple sets of leg extensions for a warmup. seems to be ineffective. is there a warmup that can target my knee directly? or what other suggestions does anybody have? thanks

6 mins bike is a solid lowerbody warmup.

The thought of weighted leg extensions post acl rehab makes me cringe. You can read more about closed vs. open chain. Book an apt w/ a physiotherapist to have it explained.

    Good luck.

While I would not consider 3 mins on the treadmill and sets of leg extensions as a proper warm up, the warm up may not even be the problem. Did you have any isokinetic quad strength testing or do any type of functional testing prior to returning to normal recreational activities? The problem may lie in any muscles length restrictions, flexibility, and/or strength issues of the muscles surrounding the knee with the reconstructed ACL.
