Just curious what most of the over 35 crowd is trying to do in terms of their physique..
I started trying to get shredded and did the single digit body fat % thing for awhile, before deciding to bulk up.. Originally my plan was to bulk up 20 or 25 pounds, gain some muscle mass and strength then shred back down to single digits..
But after I got up to that original 20 pounds of bulking, I liked the way I looked even better... Now I've added 30 pounds and plan to keep going up with a "goal" physique of around 200 pounds with 15-17% body fat..
For me anyways, a guy with no intentions of competing any time soon, I prefer the big, strong look over the ripped - shredded look..
What are most of you going for?

What body shape - size is your goal?

I'd like to get down to 6% and do a physique contest. Then the rest of the time keep my body fat at 12% to 15%. I do like the big guy look which I pretty much have now. I have that intimidating look right now which is sometimes good, sometimes bad.

For the most part I don't give a **** about bodyfat %...obviously...
I just want to be bigger and stronger and lift heavy while I still can.
I did my first powerlifting comp this summer and I plan on doing more.
I don't care if I ever see my abs again.
I just want to bend bars.Insta: flexjs

I really respect the dedication people who compete have.. For me, getting down to single body fat % was just too much work at this point in my life.. It took too much micromanaging of everything..
That was my only goal at first too.. My guess is once you get there you'll not be happy and keep pushing for new goals..
Now this man knows how to set the bar lol.. Fuark, I wish..
6 months ago even I probably would have been one of the guys rolling my eyes and thinking "he just doesn't have the dedication to eat right, so he will pretend not to care about his body fat %.."
But now, I totally get it.. Bending bars, being and feeling stronger is addicting.. Adding that extra plate after 2 months of fighting to get it feels awesome..The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.

I train for strength. I was a fan of Jesse Marunde ( well still am even though he passed away )...
I'm getting close to that ( but 20 years older I've dropped some weight lately. )
That's exactly how I feel ( except I have no plans on more powerlifting comps, I enjoy strongman more ). I still can't rep you yet -=Flex=-.Qualifying for long drive contest with 328 yard drive

I used to have a goal but that keeps changing as I progress and learn more. My goal now is to get stronger while keeping my BF in check. I'm losing both of those battles ATM. As for for abs, I could care less if I ever see them shredded. I don't have the discipline to diet down that far nor the desire right now, but like I said above that could change

Currently, I'm working on getting my body fat down. I'm aiming for about 14% by October. I think was around that BF% in early July before I let my diet get sloppy.
Sometime in October I'll change the focus to adding mass to my legs.
After that, with no time frame yet, I'll be chasing some strength goals: Squat 275x8x3, Dead 315x5, Bench 225x5x3, I know I can reach all of those fairly easily, but the trick will be getting that strength back while keeping BF% down to an acceptable level. I'll decide what "acceptable" is when the time comes.
Long term goal : 162lb @ 12% next summer. I see that as a very realistic goal. I'll be stoked when I get there.
In short, I just want to tone up.

70's big and 70's strong
I like the old classic bodybuilder look. Not shredded, but clearly defined. I like to bend bars too. To me, I have no interest in 'all show, no go'. I refuse to sacrifice strength for looks, or looks for strength. I want both.RAW lifts

This is me.. That's probably part of the appeal of all this.. The ability to change my goals and sculpt myself as I want.. Right now I want to be big and bulky. But mostly I'm enjoying seeing the plates go up and up seemingly every workout... Maybe in a couple years I'll decide I want to be shredded again..
You could certainly achieve something "close" to that in your lifetime.. It's just a matter of what you're willing to risk.. And of course how much you're willing to dedicate..
And I agree, that physique is about ideal to me.. I just debate constantly how much and what I'm willing to sacrifice to get it..The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.

I started the year off wanting to get to about 85kgs (was 78), I've revised that now to 87-90. In terms of a look, I would be happy looking like i lift, beyond that, not sure reallyMy journal http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=150040863
