Deadlift is a great exercise, but it's not "the best massbuilding exercise ever" as the misc puts it... you can't just do deadlifts and get big.. it's a power lift, mostly involving the legs

Dl is just like any other exercise but because its base exercise it often gets way too much attention when in fact you can build the same physique with just about any other exercise+injury risk is rather high with dl's(just recovered from lower back hernia) so imo they are not worth doing if your whole purpose of going to gym is to build nice body,if you want to be as strong as possible sure go ahead.Either way i still think you should do some kind of dl variation it may be SLDL or rack pulls doesnt matter.

FACT: deadlifts increase testosterone.
http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_...t_testosterone
By recruiting more total muscle mass along with a challenging motor pattern it leads to a big metabolic stress on your body. This is the perfect formula for releasing more Testosterone.

It's almost as if OP has discovered that strength and size aren't the same thing! What a breakthrough.
There's guys with small chest/arms benching 3 plates too, you know. Guess benching isn't a good movement for size now either
Not really, I put my friend on my strength program and he's almost hit 4.5 plates in 6 months, he'd been off training for 3 years and never deadlifted before. Some people are better suited for the movement than others though (he has long arms and still hasn't hit 2 plate bench).S:551, B:397, D:617

I don't think deadlifts are the key to a huge back, but I know for damn sure that they're fun as hell so I keep doing them.
The feeling of knowing that you're strong as fk is just indescribable.Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
I rep back all manlets (thank you based natypes)

The day you started lifting is the day you became forever small, because you will never be as big as you want to be.

Strength and loads of muscle do not always go hand in hand.
Hell, it may have been a rumor, but I remember Jay Cutler's lift numbers were laughable for his size. I'm sure other BBers are the same if they didn't come from a PL background.
Me thinks the dude in the video cares more about lifting heavy **** than being jacked and that's OK.

Deadlifts, or any other lower back strengthening exercises are extremely important for muscle growth.
I would love to watch someone who has never trained lower back attempt to squat / calf raise / row a large amount of weight... ripForever steps : jamestown0101, kineticforce
