Starting Bodybuilding with a permanent shoulder/arm injury..HELP PLEASE?

Hey guys, Im an 18 year old female who was born with erbs palsy (brachial palsy) which is an injury in the brachial plexus and it affected 3 nerves in my right shoulder and arm. my shoulder is very limited. I am not able to raise my hand any higher than my cheek bone and and cannot bring out my arm away from my body more than a 10 degree angle but am able to flex my biceps all the way and have good strength in it as well. I am also able to shrug my shoulders. I am looking forward to bodybuild but am worried that I cannot build because of my condition. I am wondering If I am able to perform barbell squats and what exercises I can do to build my upper chest and arm since I cant raise my right arm very high & should I work both arms equally? I really would appreciate any help & suggestions from you guys. THANKS!

you might consider using either the safety squat bar or a deep cambered bar for squats. you'll probably have to try out a few bars first to see which is the most comfortable.

Find a forum with "Ask A Personal Trainer" and see if they can help you out. I think this forum has that. I don't know personally. Good luck

Um, no. FWIW the trainer section is an embarassment to the industry. The bb.com trainer section has a few very good regular posters, but there are way more knowledgable people here and in the Over35 section then that place. Fitness qualifications mean very little unfortunatly, and thats coming from someone thats qualified.

OP, I would think that you might be better off talking to a doctor and a physical therapist rather than a bunch of guys on a web forum. Having said that, if you would end up being able to do squats on the advice of a medical professional, there are some specialty bars available, as JackBravo mentioned above, that may be able to mitigate a few issues for you.

Dips for chest if you can perform that range of motion. Squats depend on if you can grasp the bar properly through the range of motion. If you can't, there is the possibility of hex bar (trap bar) deadlifts (somewhere between a squat and a deadlift).
