sharp pain - top right of back

hey guys, for the past few weeks ive bene getting this realy big and sharp pain in the top right of my back, when doing bent over rows. the pain comes on no matter how light I go, and increases as the reps progress.

I tried warming up really well, like many sets of 20 reps, raning in weight, etc, but it just increases the pain in the end.

its in a very small point, like a pin prick. I dont feel anything during other exercises, or just during the day.

Anyone ever experienced this, or any ideas what it might be?

"Sharp pain" can be caused by alot of things, so you really should see a doctor. If the pain wasn't brought on by an injury and just "appeared," i would take at least 3 weeks off and let it heal. If it isn't better by then, I would suggest you see a doctor.

    Best of luck

i would keep lifting, if it gets to the point where it hurts so bad u cant physically moove the weight, then stop.

i agree with vitaminX, except i think you should just try and work around it for about 3 weeks. work on the rest of your body for now, and , if you can perform the exercise without pain in 2-3 weeks, then there ya go. but if the pain stays, then definately get it checked out.

werd thanks guys. any ideas for subsitutes for ben over rows? or shall i jsut cut them anyway.

my back workout involves deadlifts, good mornings, bent over rows, and shrugs. I only have a bench, and weights.

Dont substitute it with anything. Let it heal. I tore my IT band in my leg in March, and due to my stubborness, it still hasn't healed. Basically, if it hurts dont do it. 3 weeks will not severly impede your weight training progress.

    Good luck and lift smart!

i had that same problem, it was on my left side though. I know what u mean, its rlly anoyin at first then it huirts as u keep doin reps, feel's like yer mucle is ripping kinda. Take a month off, I did that and it was fine after, but in case yers isnt the same as mine, if u feel the pain after about 3 weeks go to a doc.
