[QUOTE=judgecrandall;1121436323]Congrats on another nice score, though I suppose nothing will be quite as nice as the last one .
Thanks man. I don't think anything like that will ever happen again but I think I have a knack for finding good deals. The milling on the back of the YORK and LORIE plates is interesting. Not a bad deal for just over $150? I have a Barbell that came with it too but I didnt see any markings just the old allen wrench fittings on the end. I'm going to take a better look at it but I think its pretty standard stuff.

There's a few bucks to be made but certainly not $3,605.55.
Are any of the small Yorks milled on the backs?[̲̅$̲̅(̲̅ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°̲̅)̲̅$̲̅] Equipment Crew #57 [̲̅$̲̅(̲̅ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°̲̅)̲̅$̲̅]

I like the Luries! Ferrignos are neat, I almost bought some old Ferrigno bumpers for the novelty. If the chrome bar has hex nuts on the end, more than likely its a ghetto $50 bar. (But people have been known to be completely wrong when you post stuff, so post a pic!)
P.s., I really think you should get a metal detector. Pretty sure you're going to find random gold bars or rare meteorites your 1st time out, LOL.Last edited by SkinnySquats; 08-20-2013 at 01:41 PM.

[QUOTE=gene19728;1121439853] Take some pics of the bar, if you can, Gene. The York plates could be 60s or 70s, and great weights for a home or commercial gym. Dan Lurie and Lou Ferrigno plates are of interest to certain collectors. Before you know it, you'll be an iron snob and only want to lift vintage weights.

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

[QUOTE=gene19728;1121525293] No, you made another great find. I don't know what the going price is for a 60's bar, but you could make your money back plus some with just that bar!
Edit: I am not an expert, but I've learned a lot from the forum. I'm sure Atty will pipe in, but the split sleeve with the wider flange looks like a 60's York. Also the Allen screws on the sleeves indicate that. Even though its not marked it is still probably a York. I have a 70's oly bar that does not have markings.RARE. VTG. HTF.

60's York Bar
Yeah, I've got one, but without all that patina. That's a sweet find and it's York. Gene, have you thought about joining the York Barbell Club? And, if it's not asking to much, could you take some photography classes before the next great iron find? Lol!You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Thanks AttyGuy. I suppose some classes couldn't hurt. I'd love to join the club, hopefully my luck will continue.

Gene, you are in the club. #44, just like the caliber of Harry Callahan's duty revolver. . . .

Gene, ,cleaned up, that bar will be great for your home gym. I suggest taking the sleeves off and cleaning out the bushings. Use paper towels to wipe up as much gunk as you can and then use steel wool to really get them spotless. Then put some 3 in 1 oil where the bushings are. Give everything inside the sleeves a light coating to prevent rust. I have cleaned up both my 1930s and 1940s york bars and they are good as new with nice patina like yours has.
If you could post some more pics of the bar, would be nice. I'm guessing it doesn't have a center knurl?
I had a chance to get a 60s bar like that last year and didn't and now I regret it. The cool thing about those bars is that aesthetically they look like the 40s/50s bars except that they have the modern length in the mid section so that they fit on a modern rack. My 30's and 40s bar will not fit on a modern rack because they are shorter in the middle with longer sleeves. Fortunately I have some 1948 York squat stands so I can use them for squatting and set the stands accordingly for the old bars.()---() York Barbell Club #22 ()---()

Decided to take your advice Spinlock and keep the bar for a while and get my own little collection going. Once I get a few things together I might consider a trade for the bar though. I put the Luries on eBay to see if anyone takes an interest in them and that will hopefully yield enough $ to pay for that entire purchase and maybe some scratch for the next one.

Gene, if you ask around you'll see that most of us here flip gear to fund our home gyms. If you do it right, you'll have a whole gym filled with vintage weights for little to no money out of pocket.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?
