Lmao maryland
Pls go"All living creatures place their faith in someone more powerful than them and they cannot survive unless they blindly follow that person. The recipient of that faith then seeks out someone in an even higher position in order to escape from the pressure. In this way all kings are born and in this way all Gods are born. Do not believe in me yet, for now I shall slowly teach you who the God is that you will put your faith in. Believing in me comes after that." - Aizen

I don't plan on raising a family here since I prefer a slower paced life...but for what it's worth? Good and bad. The type of people who love the fast paced, up all night, strap hanging lifestyle thrive here...you can find little bits of different cultures of the world here (china town, little Italy etc) and the like but to those who prefer slower lifestyles, they may not do so well long term.
There are things to do here that I'd be hardpressed to find elsewhere, opportunities. the money you make is great but the cost of living sucks. Good and bad depending on priorities and desires. But the worse? Nah.

NYC is GOAT. Lived there most of my life and I'd love to.move back there again.
Brb, best public transportation in the world. Complain all you want about the filth, but when millions of people use the subway system daily, it could be way worse. No other city has such an extensive 24 hour system, and the transfers are easy as schit.
Fantastic schools (CUNY and SUNY are pretty good systems), one of the art, music, drama and fashion centers of the world, beautiful and really important architecture (esp contemporary, you can't even open a text book on contemporary arch without NYC being highlighted), wonderful variety of restaurants and, compared to other major cities with lots of diversity, people are well integrated. Not saying there isn't any "segregation" with different neighborhoods, but they aren't quite as isolated or inaccessible from everything else.
Crime rates are also pretty low per capita.
Pls go.
Also, do people not realize that Boston, San Fran and LA have higher costs of living than NYC? It's not the most expensive city in the US at all, but everyone keeps complaining about it because they hear about rental rates in Manhattan or nearby areas (like parts of Williamsburg).
And taxes? Taxes are high in lots of other cities. Sheeit, Cook County is like the highest in the country with schitty services to boot.
Only in the South and West Sides, which are pretty isolated from everything else. No racist, but hardly anyone really gives a schit or is affected if people in Engelwood or Garfield Park shoot each other.
The North Side is fine. Even the North Side ghettos aren't really too bad, especially with all the gentrification.*Beer Crew* *Bourbon and Scotch Crew* *Cardamom in My Coffee Crew* *Catbrah Crew* *Chicago Crew* *Coffee Crew* *Cologne Crew* *Dates Older Women Crew* O===}DBZ Crew{===O *Egyptian Crew* *First Beat the Elite 4 While on the Toilet Crew* *Maghrebi Crew* *Mediterranean Crew* *Middle-Eastern Crew* *Miscers Who Lift Crew* *Miscs While on the Toilet Crew* *Takes Too Long on the Toilet Crew*
