Pain in upper left back near shoulder/neck after dead lifting?

I haven't ever really worked out before, and started a monday. a few days ago I did dead-lifting. I did about 10 reps of what was pretty difficult for me, but I managed. Then I started maxing. For the past two days, I have been sore behind both of my shoulders near where the shoulder meets the neck. Today, marking the morning of the third day, the right shoulder is fine but the left shoulder is still very sore. I thought it was a sign I had a good work-out at first, but did I overdo it?

Soreness happens when you work out new muscels but may I suggest something that's a lil heavier but like 5 reps? And mabey 3 sets?
