Said buddy :
His trainer's response to me saying that calipers are an inaccurate form of measurement for testing BF and his BF % is more like 9%: (BTW I posted a pic of Rich Gaspari and said "this is what 4% looks like"
Trainer's response:
" Hello Brent, I don't think we've met, I'm Josh's trainer and diet coach. I don't normally bring attitude to ********, but in this case, I'll make an exception. First off, muscle maturity has a significant role in how someone looks when they're lean. While impossible to tell how lean the person in that photo is, what I can say is that if him and I were at the exact same body fat percentage, we'd look completely different even if the same weight.
Not to mention, you picked someone who's no where near natty.... Maturity improves size, vascularity and definition. You can increase size without adding weight, which is the very definition of muscle maturity. Second, 2 hours a day for 6 months? I'd recommend getting a job if this is actually the case, and review sites that are credible and follow people who are well taught and in the sport they're preaching about. (this case being power lifting and body building)
Third, getting your body fat tested via calipers is one of the more accurate ways to get tested especially when trying to compare month to month changes. Often referred to as skin folding, you're measuring the visceral fats between the layers of skin that are being pinched. Why this is so particularly accurate for body builders is we don't hold organ fats and subcutaneous fats internally as much as someone who's created more adipose tissue over there lifetime. Should point out I've been calipered, hydro statically dunk tested and had the grip body fat tests, from various people and various companies. While my weight may fluctuate, my lean body mass and overall percentage stay around 4.5%-5%, and I look nothing like the linked photo, poor example when saying this is what 4% looks like.
Fourth, saying someone died because they were at 3.5% body fat is ludicrous, if someone went into organ prolapse, which is where your organs shut down because you've had a prolonged caloric deficit over days/weeks/months then it had nothing to do with his/her body fat and everything to do with a coach or self who was not giving proper diet information and feeding his/her athlete. Prime example, John Stockton was a professional basketball player and throughout his entire 15+ year career maintained an estimated 2% body fat. While he's a statistical outlier, I was proving a point.
Lastly, if you see someone post something on ******** and you disagree, do what your mother should have taught you. Keep your mouth shut, it's polite. I'm only responding because I've seen comments made over several months of this nature, and I'm not sure what your point and/or what you're trying to accomplish."

My buddy claims he is 3.8 % Bodyfat. 6.6k REPS to disprove his theory.

The most accurate way to measure body fat is the Bod pod. It will break down all your weight, water weight, lean mass etc. Calipers are good but not 100% accurate. I'd say 5-6% on your pal. Muscle definition is extremely visible but the body is always going to have that little fat %.
You're a DEP'r? If you have any questions about the AF feel free to shoot me any of them. You're going to enjoy that BMT

See if you can get him to do a DXA test... that or underwater weighing, those are the GOLD STANDARD's of body-fat calculating and much more accurate than some trainer who has probably had very little actual testing experience. Unless he's testing body-fat on people a LOT every day, there is no way that he is accurate. His claims are BS.

Point out to him calipers depend largely on the skill of the one doing them then ask if you can measure him using calipers. Also, I would take advantage of this to put a bet in place and have him take an official measurement like bod pod. Afterwards.....smack him for being an idiot.
