    Deadlift vs. Squat

I've seen a lot of powerlifting programs focus more on squat and less on deadlift. Why so?

I remember reading an article on T Nation, a famous fitness guru saying "Maintain the squat, train the deadlift". (cant think of name)

But from my POV, there's too many ways to cheat or change squat to increase numbers, where the deadlift seems to be 'just get the weight off the floor'.

When my training is on point, I squat twice a week and deadlift once.

because generally you can't recover as quickly from a deadlift as you can from a squat.

I might be a bit wrong on this, but I tend to see much better carry over from squats to deadlifts than deadlifts to squats. Focusing on squats + squat accesory work tends to encompass quite a lot of movements that will aid the deadlift.

Squats help like everything. Theres a tight circle of training, Squat, Deadlift, Plyometrics, Sprinting. They all help one another in some way. But id say Squat and Plyos are the best and should be maintained most religiously

Yeah I suppose your right when you say you can recover quicker. I also heard that deadlifts can strain the CNS a lot. I'm still going to deadlift every week though. lol.

Deadlifts are more stressful on your CNS because you have a dead stop at the bottom as opposed to the ability to bounce out if a squat.

Its not as long, but I didn't deadlift or squat for 8 weeks, and while my squat took a huge hit, I didn't lose anything on my deadlift. I haven't tested my 1rm, but before I stopped I had pulled an OK 405(not perfect but not super ugly) belted, and when I came back I pulled 315x10 unbelted.

Hope that keeps your spirits up lol
