Agree with OP in that it's satisfying to DIY and you can save ****ing 1000's doing simple things yourself that are easy to do. It's good for your head, I enjoy it.

I can't really provide you with such a link however you should be able to find some info here and there. Your best bet is to learn as you go when someone around does work. Just observe.

DIY is a valuable life skill to learn. Just because I can afford to call someone out to rewire a light fitting doesn't mean I'd rather wait a day and pay a hundred quid for something I can do in 15 minutes. I'm a long way from real proficiency but I can deal with basic problems around a house and I'm learning to do more.

It's not something that makes you better than somebody else, but I personally respect the ability to fix things in people. It's part of the fundamental principles of manhood, being able to handle your own business without relying on the help of somebody else. Not that you should never ask for help, but if it's a one-man job and it's not something that requires a great deal of technical expertise you're simply a better-rounded person if you can fix it there and then.

Doing my training for trade now and when qualified after 2yrs will be making more than friends who dont work a trade, where I live there are no financial jobs/large income jobs people either work in tourism (crap wages) or are teachers (not bad for my area) or service.
