Barbell Bench Press for a Beginner

Is this lift essential? Ive been doing DB Bench as my primary chest movement for quite a while now. However, I havent gained strength on it for nearly a month now, and im bulking. It seems to me that all beginners on this section seem to start of their chest/push workouts with this movement as it is the easiest one to progressively overload in.

The reason ive shyed away from this movement is because I dont have a spotter so I cant go to failure. However, it seems that it is detrimental to go to failure on compound movements anyways.

heres my current workout btw, in case this affects anything.

    Chest/Arms:
    DB Bench 4 x 6-8
    HS Incline 3 x 8-10
    Dips 3 x 8-10
    EZ Curl 3 x 8-12
    DB Curl 3 x 8-12
    DB Skullcrushers 3 x 10-15
    *maybe some more tricep work

    Legs:
    Squat 5 x 6-10
    Leg Extension: 4 x 12-15
    Lying Leg Curl: 4 x 12-15
    DB Lunges: 2 x 10-12

    Back/Delts:
    Pullups: 4 x 6-10
    BB Row: 3 x 8-10
    Close Grip Pulldown: 3 x 8-12
    T-Bar Row; 3 x 8-10
    DB Military: 4 x 6-10
    HS Military: 3 x 8-10
    Lateral Raise: 3 x 12-15.

in before SS/full body, ive tried them many times and I never find the motivation to do them.

In my opinion...its easier for newbies to progress on the bench press and get there overall strength up.

Ive been on Stronglifts 5x5 and loving it... Bench has gone up a lot
