added the couple of beers I had yesterday to MFP and was surprised to see
how many calories are in alcohol for very little to no nutritional value
Where do the calories come from ?? no protein, fat or carbs (minimal at least)

I got negged for saying something along these lines. It was about certain food like bread and bacon being harder to digest than food like vegetables and lean meat. Tip: Never post in the nutrition forum if you like your green squares. You'll get negged regardless.

From the alcohol (plus, different beers will also contain some amount of carb calories as well). As already mentioned, they clock in @ 7 calories per gram. And the body treats them preferentially; they're metabolized before any other macro. IOW, they blunt the burning of body fat for fuel.
No brain, no gain.
"The fitness and nutrition world is a breeding ground for obsessive-compulsive behavior. The irony is that many of the things people worry about have no impact on results either way, and therefore aren't worth an ounce of concern."--Alan Aragon

Ex alcoholic here and have seen the damage it can do, not only to your weight but also to your life. FWIW
Alcohol, like Ironwill stated burns before anything else in your system, hence why it is a crap idea to eat kebabs and what not when hugely intoxicated.
Learned my lesson, badly burned with alcohol consumption and it is amazing at how many people i know and work with who eat NOTHING in an 8 hour shift and state they are on a (health kick) but go home and smash in beer after beer or vodka after vodka.
Once the intoxication takes hold it becomes rather impossible to not consume the contents of the fridge and cupboards until they are empty.
Don't worry about the NEGS dude lol. tis only a pixel after all. BTW i just repped ya even though your a Manc.. lol

Although alcohol can be added into your overall caloric intake without extremely harmful results, it would be much better to have one beer, cocktail or glass of wine daily than to binge on the weekend. Getting drunk is very hazardous to your health and should not be done weekly. Trust me, I learned the hard way. Ask any good doctor.
For me, I skip it altogether at this point it my life and find my life much more rewarding in many areas, but it was indeed a journey to get to where I am today in my relationship with alcohol consumption.
Just my two cents worth on this subject.

thanks guys
only stupid question is the one you don't ask,a lot of the time the typed word is the same as the spoken word,it's all in how you ask
too true, think I will go back to drinking milk,it at least has nutritional value
thanks IW,I did notice some carbs from the beer but as I said it did seem minimal
did not realise the body burned them in preference though
got him for ya and you as well for your comments*Compare yourself to yourself. Everyday become a stronger version of yourself.*

Reading stuff in the misky misc one day when i was learning to multi quote and i stumbles upon a thread.
Every 1000 rep points you have gives a rep to the person with a strength of 1.
Every 1000 rep points gives a neg to the person with a strength of 0.5.
Strength bonuses are added per year of being an active member and per 1000 rep points you hold.
Tis only green pixels but it is amazing what some people will do for some Greenz...Ride it like you just stole it.

Ethanol is a energy source in of it's self and the body can metabolize it. However as one might expect it's toxic and causes cirrhosis (liver damage).
"The average human digestive system produces approximately 3g of ethanol per day merely through fermentation of its contents. Catabolic degradation of ethanol is thus essential to life, not only of humans, but of almost all living organisms."

I don't think so! Besides, Dorothy was by no means the Wicked Witch's dearie--it was all sarcasm.
My, how easily some people can derail a perfectly useful thread by putting ridiculous words in someone else's mouth. A lot of people struggle with alcohol abuse, so I don't think this is a subject to take lightly--although I'm never against injecting humor where appropriate."Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. It is the wine of a new procreation, and I am Bacchus who presses out this glorious wine for men and makes them drunk with the spirit."
