Well, I started out about 50 weeks ago at 250 pounds and 50 pounds too fat. I set a goal of dropping to 200 pounds before my 40th Bday. I just weighed in and have hit my goal one week early! I think I will continue to cut to about 12-14% bodyfat to see what I have to work with and then build clean muscle up to about 220# and then compete in my first competition...and win. Does this sound like a decent plan? I am certain I can add that mass in year. Thoughts fellow old guys?

Can't give honest answer without photos.
Yeah, I thought year after year I would build mounds of muscle. Doesn't really work that whey. Once you get down to contest ready shape you will understand.
Again without any photos nobody is going to be able to help with these types of questions.
Just be persistent, consistent and positive and try your best!Every day counts.

Congratulations - great job!!
A lot depends on your body's genetic muscle-building capability. If you can put on more than 20 lbs of muscle in one year (more than that since you planning to cut more before bulking up), then all power to you. If I managed that over the rest of my life I'd be ecstatic. I think I'd be lucky to even get 4-5 lbs in year - I didn't even get that much in noob gains. But that's me, not you. You are certain you can do it, and you know yourself better than I ever could, so go for it. You won't know what you can do until you try.
Good luck - keep us posted!Peace: Lift Long and Prosper!

You'll make it.
I just took in 1900 calories a day with macros in mind and ate what ever I wanted on Saturday. I lost an average one pound a week like clockwork and never had to cut calories lower. I feel downright svelte at 200# but am looking pretty good outside of love handles. By spring, I will be going the other way up to maybe 220# and then I'll cut next summer again. I'm guessing 205-210# with acceptable bodyfat by then.
