Where Do You Train - Home Gym or Commercial?

I train at the university gym. It has superb equipment and right now it's fantastic as the students are on a break. When they're back I have to time my sessions as it gets too busy at certain periods. This has got me thinking of building a home gym.

    So where do yo train?

One day, I will have a beautifully equipped home gym. I have seen pics here of some AMAZING ones!

For now, a good-enough commercial gym.

The one good thing about the fitness/exercise world---so many drop-outs there's always great second-hand deals to be found!

Quickdad, do a search on the threads in this and other forums of pics of members' home gyms. I promise you will be tickled and blown away.

I traded some electrical work at the gym for my gym membership this year so I decided to put my fitness bonus (my company provides 1500 for any fitness related items) towards a home gym. Put down 1" thick horse matts, bought cage, bar, 500lbs of weight, curl bar, dip attatchment, lat pull down and row attatchment as well as the really small plates (1/4lb, 1/2lb,3/4lb and 1lb) which are perfect for a 5x5. whole set up cost about 1600. Had a little more than 1900 in my fitness account (can roll over for one year) so I bought myself some new clubs last week with the leftover funds. Still have my membership but Ang and I love working out at home, I have a killer stereo and we can listen to what we want to.

I want to build one in the garden when we move. We have quite strict limits on the height of garden buildings though.

For weights I've found that to be true but for some reason power racks are very difficult to find (here anyways). When I do find on the person selling it is trying to get all of their money back on it

Locally owned OLD SKOOL gym. Old ass weights, raggedy equipment and stinks like years of sweat but I love it! Had a small home gym and never used it. I love the atmosphere in a gym filled with other people.

Ironwill, induced drag and tmnonkey (i think it's tmonkey) are three that I've noticed. mines in a small room right now but as it gets bigger I will sacrifice half of my shop to get the gear I want. I have a 40x40 detached shop that could be a great home gym one day if I outgrow my little room

That is definitely something to consider unless I let my mates use it if I build one.

University gym during the year, commercial in the summer. If I had the money/space for a sick home gym, I'd take it over a commercial gym.

I do agree training around other serious lifters is motivating.

Commercial. I like it there tho. I've trained at home and find that the variety of equipment at a gym is far greater than anything I could have ever had at home. In fact we used to have a power rack, bench with attachments and plates/barbe/db handles but still I'd much prefer lifting at the gym.

Commercial gym, but I have a half rack, adjustable bench, 2 oly bars, pulldown, row, pressdown, curl bar and 650 lbs of free weights in my garage.

When I get a bigger house I will have a proper home gym.

Commercial. I can use the rage for better gains...

People keep asking to use the squat racks - don't see I'm about to do another set and they broke my concentration.

Then when I leave I see them go in there and do curls.....rustles my jimmies.

Home gym for the last 6 years. I have a [FREE] membership to the local Y which turns out to be pretty darn nice, I just need to find out how they are going to feel about all the profanity on squat and deadlift day.

Both. I have a pretty thorough set up at home which I use on the days I'm at home - but on work days, I go to a commercial gym - I like having both options - means no matter what the scenario of the day is - I can still do whatever I need to do.

Home gym. Less than mint, but more than most would actually need.

Home, squat rack, 1 oly bar, t-bar attachment, pull down attachment, flat bench, and about 400 lbs of free weights. Have a spin bike for winter use as well.

Commerial, need to feed of the energy of others, helps with the lifting. All the various equipments and occasional spots. The occasional social banter with the other meat heads brings lulz too.
