even though you're a red ******* i dont want you to die OP. pls get a 250 to learn on the zx6r is an unforgiving race bike. i know you think you're going to be sensible on it and blah blah blah but the thing about riding a motorcycle is it only takes one split second of misjudgement and you're dead.

Oh and to go along with all the other bad stories, when I had my bike I seriously don't think there was ever a time I went out riding for more than 20 minutes where I didn't have to dodge someone in a car. I am a very good driver in general and always know exactly where everyone is around me and there were still a few very close calls where I would have went down if I didn't know how to control the bike properly. I mostly got that experience from riding dirt bikes growing up, which included falling down on them. I'd recommend not falling on asphalt.

inb4 OP's funeral
Seriosuly though OP, my first bike was a 600, and I'm fine. I did wreck it at 60mph (not my fault), and I have lost some friends, but don't listen to all these miscers that think it's a bad idea. What they should be saying is: Always have respect for the machine between your legs, aka the bike... but also your cawk, and always have an out.
I went from a 600, to a 954, then a 1350. Even though I've been riding dirtbikes since I was 5, I can tell you as long as you respect the bike and the road, you will be fine. And yes... Kawi's 600 series are pretty greasy. If you get a 2005-2007, 2013 model it will be a 636. Good luck brah!Mod negged for calling him a ******* now deep red crew

all of this.
the problem isnt being aware of the power. the problem is trying to manage the power, while being aware of your surroundings. You wont even have much experience driving a car, and you need to be MUCH more aware on a bike, because others wont see you.
when your learning you want to be able to focusing on having easy control and getting used to being surrounded by cagers.
on a 600 SS you can go from oh just cruising to lose your liscense speeds in a matter of a second or 2

Another thing is, I live in iowa. Just a small town with a population of maybe 1500? There's absolutely no traffic jams
Or speeding traffic. Just rural streets and highways where you might see a car every 5 miles? Different than the cities with ramps and interstates and all that.•Ariana Grandes bike seat crew•

[QUOTE=DistanceSkater;1115510793]Here's the thing Opie. This is coming from a 22 year old, that has had his motorcycle license for all of 2 weeks and hasn't driven his car since he got his license and bike. I got a Kawasaki KLR650, a dual sport...A big dirt bike that you can ride on the street. It's super fun, has plenty of power and is VERY forgiving. I can run over potholes and hop curbs and whatnot. The bike can't do a wheelie even if I tried. And it does about 100mph top speed, but struggles at anything over 80.
It doesn't matter how "responsible" you are or (my favorite) you "respect" the bike. The fact of the matter is ANY supersport motorcycle's driver inputs are VERY sensitive. Acceleration, steering and most importantly, breaking. It takes very little input to do anything on a bike like that.
In my opinion, you buying a Zx6r as a first bike at 16 years old will most likely be a fatal mistake. I highly recommend starting on a dual sport, they are way more fun than a ninja 250 and will allow you to learn on something more forgiving.
I'm having a blast on my bike.
Lol at that face
But srsly. 3, working on 4 pages later and no word from OP. I have a good feeling hes out looking at some zx6r as I type thisEating "clean" doesn't mean eating "healthy"

OP, understand that any over correction will get you into trouble. Too high rpm's and let off the clutch you'll flip or spin out. Too much pressure on breaks you'll lose control and lay over. Let off the clutch too soon your bike is on top of you. Go into a curve too fast, you're dead. Come into a stop too slow and you'll fall over. That bike is unforgiving, get something smaller.
That's not even talking about how absolutely no car or truck driver has any concept of your existence. Drivers are not conditioned to look for two foot wide objects.

Hey knee draggers, what are y'alls opinions on squidding around without gear on? I never really noticed it when I was just driving a car, but now that I'm on a bike I'd say 30-40% of people I see on bikes do not wear helmets and probably 80% of people do not wear jackets and pants.
I've fallen so many times at 30+mph while downhill longboarding and I know how much road rash hurts, I never skate without a helmet/gloves and knee pads. Now i'm on a bike always wear helmet, jacket, gloves jeans and boots. I know jeans will do very little but its better than shorts. I need to get some riding pants.
My entire family always tells me "You better wear your helmet at all times!" and I'm like >_> "Yea mom, because I don't wear a helmet when I'm skating hills at 50mph or anything" but everyone seems so unaware of how important jackets and pants are. I saw a guy on a GSXr the other day, fat white guy, 35% BF at least, ICON helmet, tank top, cargo shorts, DC shoes, no gloves. He's basically saying "I want to survive this low speed crash, but I want to lay in a hospital bed with no skin for 6 months and hamburger fingers".**Swipes right on tinder with my dick crew**

I'm guilty of driving with no jacket. Always helmet and gloves / jeans and a decent pair of shoes. Normally these trips are to the gym and back, eg about a 1.5min drive down the street. I def know the results of what would happen and kinda feel foolish when I do.
Like I said even at 21 you don't think all the time. I put so much effort into making my muscles bigger and could possible ruin all chance of aesthetics with 1 lay down at 10km/hGN
