This demonstrates that you either do not speak English as your first language or else you don't understand the basics of human physiology. This is kind of like the dumb term "toning."

Progressive resistance exercise will result in muscle gains, especially when you are eating in a caloric surplus. That goes a long with the concept of "bulking." In general, when you are in such a caloric surplus, you are ingesting adequate amounts of protein. Protein contains BCAAs. Now, if you are cutting, and therefore in a caloric deficit, you may be ingesting a less than optimal amount of protein, and that is where free form BCAA supplementation may be helpful as it allows you to get your overall BCAAs up without ingesting the same anount of overall calories to achieve that same BCAA elevation from protein-bound sources of BCAAs.

I would like to add, the "shaping and toning" while cutting comes from losing body fat and exposing the muscle. Its not really changing the shape of the muscle, cutting is just exposing what's already there but smoothed over by fat( if that makes sense).

I agree with the post above and would add that building muscle is the same way. It won't change the shape of the muscle - just the size. You can workout differently to try and steer away from certain shapes. You can make an effort and slight improvements but the overall shape of the muscle won't change dramatically.

You should use BCAA's when you're cutting or bulking.

Are you just asking a general question or looking for a product recommendation?

I use them in both situations, but they are a lot more beneficial on a cut and training fasted and/or for long periods of time.

    Came in for toning.

Use them in a cut. They help keep your appetite down, they are typically enjoyable if you select a good flavor powder.. Yes thay also promote muscle mass.

actually, toning (while a ridiculous verb) is referring to the state of muscle tonicity. hypertonic muscles are structurally hard and excessively tight; in my line of work this is not necessarily a positive thing.

what you are referring to is actually fat loss and muscular development.

BCAA's will aid in recovery while cutting (maintaining a caloric deficit). if this is your goal, you could benefit from using a BCAA product. If bulking, you do not need to employ a supplement like this.. as many others stated, your dietary BCAA intake should be adequate. good luck.

I like BCAA's on a "Lean Bulk." It's not calories from protein shakes I am necessarily concerned about but rather the fat intake of meat. There are lean forms of meat etc. but on a bulk getting in those added calories you are certainly going to take in more fat for arguments sake. BCAA's help you reach your goals in either situation unless you just overkill it with as many calories as you want regardless of how much you go over. I guess if you are a power lifter and it's all about strength and eating everything you want - just making sure you hit a high protein goal - then most likely even getting in protein shakes is meaningless.

Personally I rather not be on extended cuts. I rather lean bulk and avoid dietary restrictions. I prefer an excellent protein blend like ProNom and a BCAA supplement that offers a bit more then just BCAA's - i.e. Purple Wraath. Their new White Flood Reborn is excellent in general but pairs perfectly to Wraath. I like the overlap of nutrients.

Also, I would like to mention that although I supplement with protein shakes I also make it a policy that if I take in an amino acid drink that I make that equal to an additional protein shake. Most shakes are 20-25 grams. So when I take Wraath I add it as an additional 25 grams of protein. It at least has the muscle building effects as such IMO. Now that's not to say I would recommend you just take free form amino acids - it's only the last 20-25 grams of protein I need for the day that I count it towards and it works and it's still overkill.

So for those extreme bulkers I agree you eat so damn much you really don't need anything at all. They actually studied overweight obese people and found that they are actually healthy when it comes to a nutritional standpoint - Dr Sanjay Gupta reported on it. He is on CNN. He stated that although they run risks of cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, clogged arteries to name a few - from lacking in nutrition i.e. key vitamins and minerals and macronutrients - they found these people do not show any of those deficiencies.

BTW - Dr Gupta isn't anything like Dr. Oz. I believe he was recommended as Surgeon General. He is a great reporter etc. He is an MD and not a marketing guru like Oz.

So take it with a grain of salt but when it comes to a big bulk IMO you probably don't need anything except maybe "high test" to convert those added calories into actual muscle at the rate you indulge.

Amino acids aren't really gonna have any direct effect on how your muscles develop.

You may have misconststrued something you read that suggested amino acids were more useful while dieting than bulking
