Haven't tried using them before, as I usually have a fat cup of black coffee in the morning and enough energy to last my workout, but was interested in seeing if a little pre-workout would give me an extra boost to help break some plateaus.
Would rather do it homemade cause it's definitely cheaper and it seems like I can get the main ingredients in them pretty easily, does this mix sound decent to anyone? Anything I should add?
2.5g creatine mono
1g taurine
5.2g BCAA
2g beta-alanine
Thanks in advance!

Interesting!
The only issue is that I've read in an article on here that pro-longed use of a high dose of beta-alanine without also supplementing with taurine may lead to health issues if it's not cycled, it won't let me post the link on here but it's easily found if you google beta-alanine. The article is experts guide to beta-alanine.
And considering your answer, any advice on a good pre-workout? Preferably something homemade as stated? If you're going through hell, keep going.

Oh no! I completely understood what you meant. I have been taking 5g of creatine daily for a few weeks now either way, and I know it can be at anytime of the day as well. I haven't used BA at all yet so finding that out was interesting as well. I'll check out the supplements you guys mentioned and see if I like what I read.
Thanks for the help!If you're going through hell, keep going.

I am just being honest in saying that I don't believe either of those (or both together) was going to provide the OP with the extra boost to break through some plateaus as he was hoping.
I supplement with Taurine myself and only use BCAA's before fasted workouts. No need other times of the day in my opinion. I was trying to find ingredients that would provide the OP with a noticeable difference in the gym.RIP in Peace

This! I use two of my espresso cups with orange juice, so about 2oz each... and 3g of citrulline malate in each. I've tried plenty of pre-workouts, and I like this way better, plus no jitters, no crashing, no side effects no nasty ass flavors sticking in your stomach making you feel like your gonna vomit while working out especially abs lol, plus citrulline or malate version is just plain good for you in general. I have a real espresso machine and grinder at my house too, not some junk little store thing, setup is about 1k which is low end for real espresso, and fresh roasted beans. So I make a iced coffee or double shot with my meal about 1 1/2 in advance anyway, but caffeine doesn't have an effect on me, maybe it does, as if I don't get my coffee I feel agitated all day haha.
Sometimes I add like 4g of real Maca powder but usually forget, and take that with a snack or meal later. I will say after sticking with CM and Maca for awhile now, you just feel great overall, no fake effect that only last a short while like premade preworkouts. Just solid feeling every day all day long. And even if you don't have a problem with libido etc, you'll notice it up even more after a few consistant weeks.
Mesomorph was the only preworkout I've ever liked, but god the taste would come up as burps or that little throw up feeling in the gym when doing abs or squats or dumbell rows for me. Same for other preworkouts. Citrulline Malate is sour as ****, but once down that's it, doesn't irritate you or anything, taste a superman version of a sour patch kid in liquid form in orange juice lolLast edited by SurfChris; 08-06-2013 at 04:45 PM.

Coffee isn't going to give the same boost as a pre-workout. The reason is because the how it is metabolized would be different then a high potency extract of coffee or caffeine anhydrous. The quicker release will stimulate brain chemicals and not just have an effect on ATP - which is the stimulant effect you feel from coffee mainly. You still get that with quicker caffeine but you stimulate adrenaline more so with a bigger boost.
I don't know that your method is actually cheaper. Definitely not convenient. Like others have said it's not necessary to take all that pre-workout but it wouldn't hurt. Look at Controlle Labs pre and intra namely White Flood Reborn and Wraath. For creatine look at Green Mag. See if on BB.COM it doesn't meet your pricepoint going by servings etc. Top quality. You don't have to worry about the quality of the powders you would have to buy. Fantastic energy blend and no need to worry about trying to be a formulator. The formulation is what you pay a little more for which makes sense. The guesswork is taken out of the equation. Also, you don't have to think about taking more or less of a specific ingredient. More is not better and less is not more - I have done what you are considering of doing and I didn't get any better results. Plus my flavoring was bitter b/c i drank it with no juice (xtra sugar) and it was disgusting on a daily basis. Plus the flavor was so bad I can't imagine what the PH of it all was - not that it matters much - i dunno.
It's your body and nothing like taking care of yourself. Look at it that way. Just don't spend the extra money on stupid stuff. Take care of your health first b/c your putting time in the gym etc. I rather cut costs elswhere. Hell why spend all that time in the gym and eat right and then try and be cheap and buy powders to make a cocktail that you don't even know for sure is going to do it's job. Plus coffee pre workout sucks. There is other stuff other then natural caffeine in White Flood Reborn. The creatine is seperate which makes sense b/c you might not want to be on creatine for months. It's a formula as well with volumizers and tastes great. Splurge a little and maybe walk to the gym and save on gas. Just an idea. You won't have to do cardio. Ha ha.
