This. Working in real estate i see it so much. There are pretenders and there are doers. The pretend wealthy (note they are often pretty well off, but not wealthy or rich) are snobs. Genuinely wealthy people dont behave that way. When people say rich/wealthy people are snobs or whatever they arent talking about genuinely rich/wealthy people, they are talking about pretenders.

No estats - my mentor owns 25 investment properties (Purchase price between $200k - $500k), a mansion in each of the 3 waterfront estates in my area ($2M+ each) and drives a camry and wears a tissot. He is also the nicest guy you would ever meet.

Sorry for thread derail, but as mentioned it is somewhat relevant.

I'm sure he spends his money in other ways that most of us would think is pointless. Someone else on the other hand could own all that and wear a suit every day and drive around a Lamborghini AND still be a great guy. It's all about priorities.

Those fukkin ADs would run out of business with the QUICKNESS in Asia. There are a LOT of Chinese people who save their money most of their lives and look "uncultured" with their clothes and mannerisms, but those kind of people make up the majority of sales in Asian watch ADs.

On the topic off ADs that aren´t friendly. Ever tried ordering a Catalogue from the major watch brands?
They literally ask you what your profession is, wrote student; never got a reply from any of them.

Wrote: Logistics Manager and my dad´s name: Have 40 catalogues sent to me...

My Rolex AD is one of the nicest guys I ever met, Walk in with sweatpantshorts, a pair of suede loafers and a polo. Get looks from all the 40+ suited up guys looking at FP Journes in there. The owner comes to me and has some talk about vintage rolexes and mentions offhand that 'I could sell a fake Timex to those suited up monkeys if it had the name Breguet on them' bursted out laughing. While the guys wears a white-gold vintage Daytona. I love that guy

My mentor (self made) has a 500k+ watch collection, uses 2k+ suits everyday for work and his daily driver is a Porsche GT3 lol

But obviously i undestand your point, i know several "rich" people that prefer to keep a low profile.

Lol, I bought the stone for my wifes ring from a diamond dealer I know and then took it to a local jeweler and dropped a couple k's on a setting. The girl took the stone and was like is this real? Lol really lady, you want my money or not? She kept using the diamond checker thing on it too like repeatedly, super insulting. I almost wish I had written them off after that but I went back in on a weekend on my way out of town to get a birthday gift for my mom, no one would wait on me, I just left.

Bremont supermarine x1000. So ****ing hhhnnnnngggggg. The nomos is nice, but I don't think it's a great dive watch. Pick up a nomos tangente down the line if you want a nomos.

My local AD is great. I was nervous about going the first time. They sell everything from Rolex to AP. I walked in and was treated super nicely. Offered something to drink and could try on whatever I wanted. Ended up buying my Tudor from them.

A nomos is £1200-1400, a seamaster is £2770 lol. Just under £1800 on the grey market, but then you can't get it serviced or have a fully safe warranty.

if you're buying new then a local AD is as good as anywhere, but really there's nothing wrong with 2nd hand, and you could get a near-new one with enough savings to buy the nomos as well...

How do you guys deal with talking about watches with fashion watch fans?

I'm not even remotely on the level of most people in here but i have an appreciation for decent watch and it drives me insane when a work friend walks up and starts talking about his watches. He's a hella nice guy and I can't really bring myself to do anything other than smile and nod when he's talking about his "really good" CK etc watches.

This. You have people who (try to) look rich, and people who are rich. The first group will do anything to impress people around them, the second group does whatever and dresses however the fuk they feel like.

It's especially nice if you walk into a store with the intention of buying something, when all the personnell looks as if they constantly smell chit. Yeah no gracias, Jefe, I want a real warm and friendly atmosphere. If they don't buy the costumer, the costumer shouldn't buy their product.

Also funny how this becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Brb, they hate on people of whom they think looks poverty. Brb, that person doesn't want to reward their disrespect with money and thus bails. Brb, they were right, the poverty *******s almost never buy. Brb unaware of reciprocal contact.

on this topic, my father was shopping at the local mercedes benz dealership like 10 years ago, he dresses very humbly, one of the salesman comes up to him making a joke "excuse me sir, the honda dealership is across the street"....so my dad tells him to get his manager and bought a new SL600 in the showroom and another salesman got the commission and the original guy was fired.

If you give the impression that you have more money than you know what to do with, it kinda leaves the option of haggling off of the table. I never dress nicely when going to buy a high dollar item where you can potentially negotiate a lower price.
