saw the conjuring last night. there seems to be two camps of people with this film; those who thought it was awesomely scary and maybe "the GOAT horror movie" (to quote a miscer), and those who thought it was lame and totally unscary.
i'm somewhere in the middle. it definitely wasn't a waste of money and i actually enjoyed the film's deliberate pacing. the plot was a little vague, and the characters were underdeveloped. who's the protagonist again? not really sure there was one. the movie ended pretty anticlimactically. after the final demonic death scene, i was thinking "that's it...?" it seemed all too easy. there was no plot twist or tragedy; the flick ended all too happily.
there's been a lot of discussion about how scary this film is or isn't. for anyone who found it SO scary (as a lot of people claim), i really have to wonder; have you ever seen the ring? because the ring honestly makes the conjuring seem like a friendly walk through the park in comparison.
the ring traumatized me. i was only in the 8th grade when i saw it, so maybe i was more sensitive, but i've never even come close to being as scared by a movie as i was by the ring. i slept with the lights on for 3 months after that movie. to this day, a TV stuck on snow in the dark still sort of makes my skin crawl.
can someone please tell me one movie scarier than THE RING? don't come in here and tell me "LoL wtf the ring waznt scary boy you weak!!!!" without actually naming a scarier film.
bear in mind i am a horror movie fanatic who has seen and owns TONS of horror flicks, from every sub-genre. slasher, gore/splatter, thriller, possession, classic horror... i have seen tons of horrors and nothing touched me like the ring. please name me a scarier movie so i can hunt it down, watch it, and give you my opinion. there's been so many movies people claim are scarier than the ring that aren't even close.
sparks;
-the conjuring was okay, but not truly frightening
-tc is convinced the ring is the scariest movie he's seen
-requests other scary movies for comparison

i own it and first saw it 15 years ago. pretty good movie (nice gore) but it didn't at all scare me like the ring.
let me get this straight. you're me telling me the original The Thing scared you more than THE RING, correct?
i just don't get that. the thing was cool but didn't give me trouble sleeping, or anything like that.

and what movie was?
so far i have been told The Thing which just doesn't cut it, good horror movie but not freaky.
can anyone compare Insidious to THE RING (scariest movie ever) for me in terms of how scary they are? the person i saw the conjuring with recommended insidious as a scarier movie, haven't seen it but it looks promising
look at how few candidates there are to compete with the true freakiest movie ever THE RING (it's better than RINGU too)

really!? no way man. the conjuring just isn't as paranormal or twisted as the ring. the ring was sooooo ****ing weird to me, whereas the conjuring is more like cookie-cutter type stuff that i've seen before.
i was a lot more freaked out by that few minute video tape in the ring than i was by the conjuring in whole
after the conjuring i slept in pitch black easily, that says it all

Saw The Ring when I was young as fuk too and counted down the days until I died after watching lulz.
Sixth Sense also scared the chit out of me when I was younger. Brb never getting up in the middle of the night to pee.
Literally laughed through most of The Conjuring. Didn't scare me a bit☆☆☆FLORIDA GATORS CREW☆☆☆

you tell me "srs" yet you cannot name movies that are scarier, which is the whole point of the topic.
now name some scarier movies or gtfo with telling me the ring wasn't scary. one or the other. i'm tired of people saying "the ring wasn't scary man" and then drawing a blank when it comes to naming a scarier movie.

I'm one of the horrors 2 bro.
Watched the conjuring 2 weeks ago. VERY average. 1 of the girls had her eyes covered most of the movie lol. I think it just depends how you look at it. You know somethings about to happen, so it doesn't scare you. Maybe I don't get involved in the movie and think it's not real?
The Ring is definitely one of the scariest movies I've seen. Another movie is the Grudge (which reminded me of the Ring)... I jumped when the chick went in the attic... other than that it's some freaky kid lol. Another movie I remember clearly is Gothika.. when she was hiding? under water and opens her eyes and she sees it.
A scary movie to this day... Blair Witch Project lol.... watching it through their camera running through the woods etc..."Meal frequency and nutrient timing is all irrelevant for improving body composition, its all personal preference really." - Josef Rakich

then you're probably not easily scared (right?), some people just don't feel horror movies. i occasionally find myself scared by them so i feel like a pretty good judge, and none of them have scared me like the ring. you can split hairs between "scary" and "creepy" (to me they're synonymous), but can't we all agree that the ring is pretty high up there for a legit scary film. unless you just claim "no movie scares me" which is an unimpressive reply.
at least you named a film for comparison. nobody else can even man up and give me an answer.

i never got to see gothika, but the grudge was no match to the ring for me. after seeing the ring, i NEVER trusted a horror movie the same way. it was like being raped or something. the grudge had it's moments but the movie as a whole was weak sauce in comparison to how the ring got me.
one of the only movies that had me as scared as the ring is called Phantoms (1998), not a very popular movie but it was scary as ****. petrified the whole film, granted i was very young. but still nothing like the ring, which ****ed me in the head for months.

The problem for determining which movies are scariest is that you watch movies under different circumstances. Some you watch when alone in the dark when you're 13, others you watch in a theater with a bunch of loud people when you're 24. I saw The Conjuring in such a theater and didn't find it scary whatsoever, but I'm sure if I watched it alone in the dark at home, I'd be haunted. The Grudge (followed closely by The Ring) was probably the most scary movie experience of my life because I was 15 at the time, but watching it 9 years later, it's not scary at all.
Btw, I'm a huge asian horror fan, but I think The Grudge and The Ring are two of the only asian horror remakes that are better than the originals.

watched it in 6th grade. mentally scarred me for a couple months.srs
what didnt help was i went to a haunted house (fukin amazing one) and for part of it they made us stand in a really eerie room with a well, and out comes samara. literally got right in my face i almost fuking shat myself.
wanted to see if i still thought it was scary, so i went to blockbuster like a year ago to get it but they only had the 2nd one. thought it was pretty bad.
