Yes sir. I would really, really love to keep them. I thought they were awesome when I saw them, thats what got me looking into it. But I can't really turn down the potential help to pay down some bills. I have a 1948 team signed Yankees baseball I was about to sell to help which is my prized possession. At least I will get to keep that.

Dude, stay positive and stay the course. Don't believe any of the hype (positive or negative). And keep your eye out for vintage York and Weider weights. I've been to Sicklerville a few times for stuff. Your township/locale has a lot of good stuff. . . .
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

You made the right call by putting them on Ebay. The snakes in the grass have lost their chance at grabbing them below market value.

At least I will get to keep that.
Joe DiMaggio over Bob Hoffman? I can see your logic, but just barely.....

At least the baseball will easier to pack if you move.

A little background on the plates you own. There was maybe somewhere around 500 of those 45s made in the early 1930s in my opinion. A new 45lb plate was introduced around 1936 when the older style starting cracking when dropped, making ones in good shape hard to find today. Your two plates are #6 and #7 that collectors know of, it is obvios that there are more out there we just have not seen them yet.

    I believe it was 500 sets in the 30's. . . .

Bob Hoffman and York were influenced by the German company, Berg Hantel. John Wood, proprietor of Old Time Strongman and a friend of Rockcrshr's, has a brief piece on Berg Hantel with a picture at his website.

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

An ad in Strength and Health from the late 30s boast that over a thousand York olympic type barbells are in use. Could be a marketing tool exaggerating the amount, but it is all we have to go by.

Great find. Bob Hoffman certainly never exaggerated. . . . I believe there are internal York Barbell records and correspondence that reference sales of Oly sets and those records are the basis for others quantifying total numbers of York Olympic sets.

So what are you saying, that thru internal York Barbell records your claim of 500 sets in the 30s is correct or did Bob Hoffman exaggerate in the ads?

So we're there roughly 500 sets of the old style 45 sets before the 1936 new 45 plate was introduced?

Perhaps the old and new style sets totaled in the 1000's for the entire decade.
