    Leg Press necessary?

I hate the leg press, and always have. Is it necessary in training? I feel like the time I would spend leg pressing can be used for more squats or another lower body exercise. Your thoughts?
    Squat: 515x1
    Log C&P: 300x1
    Deadlift: 635x1

Some people see leg press as an easier version of squats. If you feel that way, don't do them.

I however love leg press because I can alter my foot placement to press in ways that just wouldn't be possible to balance with a bar. Able to hit my quads better with leg press.

I don't believe it to be necessary but it's quite a good finisher I believe after squats, sldl, lunges etc. if you can't stand them then leave them out OP, they are not essential!

Non essential. They perform a more direct and easy targeting of inner and outer heads on the legs. Squats are better movements overall. I am doing leg presses right now because my shoulder was giving me trouble. Otherwise I'd likely not be doing them.

No exercise is necessary unless you're a powerlifter or an olympic weightlifter. You 'only' squat 225x12, I don't think you'd get much out of leg pressing especially if you don't like doing them.

The only reason it would be "necessary" is if you are training for a leg press competition.

With that said, it can be a valuable tool for leg hypertrophy if done correctly.

My goal is to get into powerlifting when my lifts are a bit more respectable lol, which is why I would rather spend time squatting instead of leg pressing.

If that's the case, I'd advise you to squat three times per week.

Im on my second cycle of 5/3/1... There are two days I squat. The regular scheduled squat day per week, and on deadlift day, where I focus more on squat form and explosiveness at about 50-60% of my max. I dont know where to add another day to squat without compromising a rest day or should I just add it to Bench or OHP day?

do you have the book? if so, then you will have your answer. There are templates up to 5x/week squatting.

short answer: 50% effort on two other days of the week.

I actually prefer hack squat vs leg press because I hit both in and out quads with hack. leg press seems to be very inner quad dominant.

If you want to compete, dont ever touch a leg press. Absolutely useless.

    Definitely not.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

hey man, i usually do moderate weighted leg press after i squat and do some lunges, i put on some decent mass with the legpress, i feel like you dont need to go so heavy on it, just feel the burn in your quads. but squats are number 1
