Nice job OP.
But I don't like you making the comparison saying that there's no difference, when indeed there was a difference in your training. In the first one you are very likely in a much better cardiovascular condition then in the second. So you may look bigger in the second one - this also ignores the growth factor of time - but i'd put my money on you being in better athletic condition in the first cut.6'5 220

Seriously misc... Im not trying to say im a massive sick kvnt.
Im just sharing my experience from doing it the bro way vs the flexible way to illustrate both methods work.
I didnt do more cardio because i dropped weight everyweek so i didnt increase my cardio.
You can see from my plan of attack i was preparing to do alot more cardio but my metabolism was firing:

I will honestly admit during the 1.5-2year gap i probably gained at most 2-3kg muscleand the rest was fat. I gained 10kg during that timeframe.Check out my fb fan page at:

Problem with how many miscers perceive IIFYM is that they think it allows them free reign to just eat whatever. When it's meant to still a semi strict diet of "good/clean" foods and if you have macros available then you can enjoy added cheat meals, hence flexible dieting.

But dude I can't accept your dismissal of clean diets for two main reasons. You were eating 600 calories MORE in the second cut (which probably was still a deficit) and did a LOT of cardio in the first cut. These two things don't go well together.
What are we to assume you would look like if you clean cutted on 2200 calories and didn't do cardio??6'5 220

First cut i had limited knowledge and did everything the bro way. I started straight into a huge deficit and kept reducing cals when i didnt see weight loss, i started out with cardio everyday which i shouldnt have which resulted in me having to keep on doing cardio and add more to see weight loss. I was eating very clean thus the low cal intake. I had also built up my metabolic capacity prior to my second cut which made the BIGGEST DIFFERENCE!!!

This. following IIFYM isnt just eating mcdonalds every meal and hitting your cals.
I follow IIFYM and still eat HEAPS of things such as:
Steak, rice, chicken, brocolli, tuna, pasta, wholemeal bread, fish, oats etc.... but if I have cals left in my day I can eat a muffin, go out for ice-cream and things like this.

Regardless of what an individual thinks a "clean diet" is or what "IIFYM"s" means, the direct outcome of one's diet is determined by sustained energy balance and micro/macronutrient sufficiency, with indirect impact coming from food selection, meal timing and meal frequency, which impact satiety, palatability, energy, performance, compliance, recidivism, etc.

For my first cut i did not learn to monitor and track progress in relation to my cals/macros... I just ate low cals and did cardio straight up and as a result, had to keep cutting cals and increasing cardio to continue fat loss.
Here is a snapshot of my second cut
