Man attempts to break into your car and you shoot and kill him, your guilty (discuss)

i don't have the sauce nor do i feel like looking it up but this is just what i learned in government and there are some cases that see to this being valid.

SCENARIO:
so lets say your nice new Lamborghini is parked outside of your house like so


and a man tries to break into your car in the middle of the night. you hear the sound of your car's alarm go off so you quickly grab your 28 gauge shotgun

and head outside

luckily your a very skilled marksmen and get a headshot, instantly killing the man.
By some law YOU are charged with manslaughter for killing a man that was not causing you any harm physically. You now face a prison sentence.

Now if it were changed so that you shot the guy in the leg and he lived, i can't remember properly but as long as you did not kill him you wont be in trouble. then again something in my head is telling me that the man you shot can sue you for the injury because he was not physically assulting you and it was infact YOU who assulted him. can someone confirm that??

my personal opinion is that if someone is trying to break into my car i would not hesitate to kill the man because you never know if the man had a concealed weapon in his possession

edit: also something about property laws. since he was not breaking into your house he is no danger to you or some bs like that. i still think the car is your property and you have every right to shoot someone in your property if its for the right reason

I'd notify the police. Regardless of the law I don't intend to take away a mans entire life because he's trying to steal a piece of metal (rubber, plastic, and various other materials). Hopefully the police arrive in time to apprehend him. If he attempts to enter my home that's a different story.

the humane thing to do would be to confront them without shooting at them. but that posses the threat of them potentially having a concealed hand gun or something and shooting you before you shoot them. also if they decide to run off before the police get there im sure you'd wanna shoot the guy and at least injure him so he doesnt get away. someone like that should be behind bars
