Oh look another Monkey waiter bitching about a tip doing peasant work.

...I really don't think you get how math works.
Let's say I pay $10 for food + $2 for tip = $12. Let's say the restaurant pays you $6. At the end of the day, I've paid $12 and you've made $8. The restaurant earned $4 from my food.
Now, let's say I pay the restaurant $12 for food. Let's say the restaurant now pays you $8. At the end of the day, I've paid $12 and you've made $8. The restaurant earned $4 from my food.
You see how that ends up the same? You can add as many employees and split the tip as many different ways as you want.~ Never Having Kids So Can Save Up For a 4K TV and a PLP Computer Setup Crew ~

I'm just confused. Personally, I would love it if my meals were just 20% more and the waiters earned a reasonable wage.
In all likelihood my meals wouldn't even need to be 20% more. An extra 10% could probably cover the difference.
That would also be better for bussers + other staff that don't interact with the customers. They should be able to have a dependable wage since they have no way of influencing the tipper.
Bonus: No more waiters complaining.
The only person that loses is the waiter. Because now he won't make $30-40+/hour doing a job that could be adequately filled in most circumstances by a touchscreen and a conveyor belt. Or a robot.

It would be a gold mine if you were good. The good comes with the bad, but it all evens out. I'm averaging 23% right now. I'd be super pissed with OP's experience, but he works at a nice place it'll come around. That's why its bad to complain. The strong lack of knowledge on restaurant employees is insane though lol.

Pretty clear most people don't understand that waiting tables is actually quite hard, I thought it was easy until I started doing it, have to be composed, calm and serve the needs. Polite at all times, you guys think it is easy but being a good waiter takes skill. I'm a good ****ing waiter I expect 10 percent for good service

You seem rational enough. What knowledge are you missing? (srs question)
Don't say the thing about waitstaff making less than minimum wage though. That's just not true.

I quote in relevant part:
If an employee's tips combined with the employer's direct wages of at least $2.13 an hour do not equal the federal minimum hourly wage, the employer must make up the difference.~ Never Having Kids So Can Save Up For a 4K TV and a PLP Computer Setup Crew ~

I know the feels OP. Made me rage when I was working at a restaurant. We didn't have expensive food and drinks like where you work but would be pissed after busting my balls tryna satisfy these azzholes just to get less than 10%.

If I had a problem with it though, it's that everything you just listed applies to nearly every service industry. It's not something unique to being a waiter that justifies bitching about making $60 in 90 minutes.
Unless you think other service staff don't need to be "composed, calm", "polite at all times", etc. It comes with any job dealing with customers.
Also waiting on tables is a job that has very few real world consequences. If a firefighter fuks up, someone's house is coming down. If an attorney fuks up, someone is going to jail. If a doctor fuks up...
But what happens if you fuk up?
Now obviously waiters generally do not make more than attorneys or doctors. (Firefighters... well, they're possibly underpaid.)
But a waiter makes a lot. It seems to most of us to be disproportionate to their actual responsibility.
My other complaint is the mafia-esque extortion you hear about. Hopefully you don't do that though.~ Never Having Kids So Can Save Up For a 4K TV and a PLP Computer Setup Crew ~

4 hours of work at my current position is about two days of work for you and I'm making minimum. That's just the way it is at the moment. That tip you made in I'm guessing 2-3 hours worth of delivering plates of food is basically a days pay if I am given 8 hours.
And here's a tip; you're not going to receive incredible tips unless you're the man. I'm talking great introduction with confidence and friendliness, timely visits to check up on your customers, some little jokes and maybe even one or two jokes that get the entire table laughing if you can pull it off, all that. Very few people will acknowledge good or even great service. There's a lot of people that provide good or great customer service. Very few people provide excellent customer service with the cherry on top that people seem expect now like it's the norm.
Ex: I went to a place called Hennessey's Tavern for my friend's birthday about a week ago. About 15-18 people showed up and the bill came up somewhere around $200-350 total. The waitress was nice, had great energy and was very patient. Checked up on us a couple of times. Basically, she did her job well I thought. My friend's girlfriend was being dumb though lol, she wanted to leave the waitress a total of $13 for the tip since that was the day my friend was born on. She gave me back a dollar of my tip and I was just like wtf are you thinking; she was a good waitress...The part that pissed me off was that most of the people went along with her idea...
Just know that people don't give a **** / don't take great notice unless you are truly being an outstanding waiter or waitress.Word is Bond
