    Shrugs

Having a ton of trouble getting the form and balance right for shrugs. Any suggestions? I've dropped the weight so don't think it's too much weight, just an awkward movement for me.

I stopped doing shrugs last year. Didn't feel the need, but I'm wondering what could possibly be causing you problems? It's a 2 inch movement.

Try different variations: hammer strength, barbell, dumbell, trap bar, smith shrugs. Go with the one that feels comfortable. Anyone serious about trap size should being doing shrugs.

I recommend behind the back smith machine shrugs. Balance is not an issue and I get a great stretch.

Yeah, that's bodybuilder stuff for sure. I'm more into strength training. My traps will come with deads and picking up nieces/nephews.

Still wondering how your form can breakdown on a 2-inch lift, though. That's like calf raise stuff.

IMO, ^^^^ this is a superior way to Shrug. You can position yourself not only so that you have some "clearance" between your junk and the bar, but you can also direct the work a bit more by using the fixed bar path to your advantage.
    No brain, no gain.
