Similar situation, quit my job which was 7 days a week of 80+ hour weeks (worked 5 months STRAIGHT at one point). Was a character builder, but I Burnt out at 25, looking to get into law enforcement. I like to work hard, but eff the slave culture. Good luck with future endeavors op, ad cliche as it sounds, you really only do live once

I think it's all dependent on your mindset OP. You need to appreciate what you have or else you will not be any happier working for yourself then you are at the office.
Trust me, I'm on the opposite side of the fence(Physical labor) just to give you some perspective. I make more money, but do not yet have benefits as I've been dumping it all back into the business. I have bad tendonitis in my shoulder, starting to get hammer toe, and my back sometimes feels like it's ready to give out. Every day that I take off is $500+ lost + whatever I spend and that mindset NEVER leaves my mind. The hours are unexpected sometimes and I have to skip vacation for work on occasion. The amount of stress is huge when you're working for yourself, and hurting myself means I get zero income and bills rack up. Most days I long for a desk job where I have set hours.
Fix your mindset OP, you won't be any happier doing physical labor, trust me. If you had to do anything, start a small side business, preferably online so you can grow it at your convenience. Look into Buddhism, not for the religion but just for how happy that entire culture is and how much they appreciate life. The Dalai Lama has some very inspirational words.
If you do quit your job, make sure that decision is backed by SERIOUS drive and ambition and you know exactly what you want to do. I would invest heavily in your savings as well before you quit, businesses are much more expensive to start and run then you would think.keep rep trading out of your sig line

Did you miss the part where op said he has a house?
He's kinda locked in with dat der mortgage. You can't just up and toss that, unless maybe you leave the country and luck out that the debt doesn't follow you.
OP: No one likes work. (Ok there are a few rare exceptions)
So what do you love? Music, misc, lifting? Can you get paid to do any of that? If not, then tough sht. That's life.
Most people don't go to their jobs to have fun, they do it because they've signed contracts to purchase all sorts of expensive sht and need to pay for them somehow.
Also, if you're thinking about a trade, don't bother - you'll hate that in a few years too, and be even further in the hole for the tech schooling (unless you've been welding or whatever already and can get a job doing it without the need for certifications and a tech program)
Just suck it up man. Try to focus on the sht you LIKE about your job (you can misc at work!) and make a friend or two that you can joke around with so that the time goes by faster. Save money.
Pay off your house and debts (or get to a point where you're in the green and could sell and walk away).
Then do whatever the feltch you want. Start a small business doing something random (supp company?) or travel or just take some time off for yourself

Oh really? join date May 2013 and have 1500 posts? what you live on misc?
age:22 - dont have any life experience.
instead of giving some advice or something similar you act like a fukin badass... stfu
this, seriously, people stick with 8-5, 9-5 jobs because they are scared, they have security with that job but they are unhappy.
you are young. Do something that will make you happy. SRS
it is easy to complain about your job (to your family, friends) but also if you are complaining, that means you are unhappy. It is time for a change.
Make a plan, stay at the job for x-time and save money and then move on.

theres nothing whiny and ungrateful about hating your job... so please go.
OP just starting doing research, trying lots of new things to figure out what it is you REALLY want to do. Once you figure that out start working towards and don't be afraid to take a chance. Odds are you could always fall back into another engineering job if you really needed to but lets hope that doesnt happen. GL I'm working through similar stuff now too

Make what you do more valuable to you.
Work for yourself.
Take the time to own the company you work for...start consulting on the weekends till you can stab at it alone and be the boss.
So much more is realized about ones self when you own what you do.
If all else fails do not worry about the home, simply put it up for rent so you can bounce and have it as passive income to pay for itself...or mostly for itself.
This will give you the freedom to downsize while not throwing away a potential asset and allow you to rethink what you are going to or want to do with the rest of your life.
and the last lines of;
-hate waking up in morning
-truly only enjoy lifting, music and misc
You think it will get easier if you get a manual labor or hard work job OP?
You dont get to have your cake and eat it too.
What you get to do is work and find yourself at the same time by sacrificing some thing...mainly your time.
You should of found out who you were in college...not down the road...but you can do a 'do over'...just start doing it.
