Living just 40 minutes outside of Downtown Detroit, I used to ride my motorcycle throughout the city, looking for abandoned buildings ( which aren't hard to find as they are scattered throughout populated urban areas of the city).
Stumbled across these pictures taken by two photographers in 2005, many of which I've seen posted before. Just thought it'd be cool to share some of them as I've been to a couple of these places myself.

you can walk around downtown and not see anybody.... like right next to the baseball stadium, should be crawling with people... but there is no one...

That's very true. The abandoned buildings are scattered throughout the city, right next to active buildings which makes it very unique and cool, but again very dangerous as many are loaded with squatters.

Good example of how an entire neighborhood can be turned to ruin and abandoned. You can use Google streetview to explore a lot of streets just like this.

i have friends in Farmington Hills and visit there often. i can confirm, downtown is deserted after dark

detroit really was mind blowing when i went. downtown was like a ghost town i felt like i was denzel in the i am legend movie. but theres this restaurant called slow's or whatever and i had the best mac and cheese and ribs i ever had in my life there.

Take my measlies. Ive always been fascinated with Detroit since i watched 8 mile, dont know why maybe because it has that eerie feeling... i would like to go there someday (100% srs)

Someone mentioned Grosse Pointe earlier in the thread. It's right on the border of Detroit. Here's a house in Grosse Pointe.



If you go down to the border of Detroit it literally changes from houses like this to liquor stores and abandoned graffiti covered buildings within 300 ft.
