    Fasting

    Hey guys , Wouldn't water fasting get you in to ketosis mode fast than a keto diet ? I heard it takes 3 days for your body to go In to ketosis mode

    You could water fast but I wouldn't say it will get it done faster.

    But how much of that would be muscle? Wouldn't your body break down muscle for energy if your not in ketosis for your body to know to eat fat.

    Technically, if it was just 3 days and you were eating normally prior to the fast you shouldn't lose any or very minimal at least.

    As for 2 lbs a day, that isn't all fat, almost all of it will be water, maybe even muscle.

    In order to get into keto you need to deplete all glycogen, so muscle and liver. This takes 3-4 days if you use exercise. Only thing that makes it suck less is if you eat lots of wonderful food.

    Muscle glycogen doesn't have to be depleted to enter ketosis. The liver will start producing ketones as soon as the liver glycogen is depleted. Depleting liver glycogen can be done in a day without exercise.

    I have a hard time believing that you could lose up to 2 pounds per day. Let's say your bmr was around 2000kcal, at MOST you would lose 1 lb every two days. But that's being generous, because your metabolism will slow down dramatically. Any weight you do lose would most likely be either water-weight or muscle. Think about it, if you aren't even fat adapted yet, the first place your body is most likely going to derive its energy from would be your muscles.
