Not sure how, but soda regardless should be avoided since the acid alone has corrosion properties on the teeth and tissue in your esophagus. But to answer your question, depends on the other ingredients in the soda. Eg, type of sweetner substitute.

Well, if you 100% need to drink some type of carbonated beverage then by all means drink the diet kind.
However, I would say drop the soda and...
Drink
a
metric
****
ton
of
water
Nothing better for you than water. I used to think drinking ONLY water was pretty stupid and I drank only diet soda and other crap. Then, I made the switch to water ONLY and about a gallon and a half a day and I can feel the difference between now and when I wasn't ever drinking plain ol' water at all.

Especially with all the new drinks coming out with splenda. While true splenda is not metabolize based on current knowledge, that is not to say that we know what the long term effects are, especially on our kidneys and GI. Just stick with something natural, pure, wholesome, etc etc.

A diet soda would be 0 cals
A glass of water would be 0 cals
Either is a good choice when losing weight. Whoever said you would gain weight, or fail to lose weight may not be thinking clearly.
I know I lost 60+ pounds, now can see my six pack, and have improved in all aspects of my bodybuilding....and the biggest single impact was diet soda.
Before cutting down my weight, I drank regular sodas, regular orange or apple juice and those of course contain hundreds of calories. Just cutting calories by drinking diet soda cut many calories out of the diet. I don't drink anything with calories anymore. I drink plenty of water, but lots of diet soda also....and I feel no different drinking either.
Some one said that you should not drink diet soda because of its acid content. Well orange juice, lemons, some teas, most fruit are highly acidic...but most people are not afraid of them for thier high acid. Only if they are high calories.
In weight loss, calories in versus calories burned. You will cut cals by drinking diet soda. Its just a diet drink with Aspartame or splenda etc.... not the boogy man.

Diet soda isn't too bad but its definetly not good. The effect can be followed by taking a drink of water after you drink it to help dilute it. Even better, gargle a bit of water and spit it. Drink water afterwards to counter the diuretic effect.
I used to drink a crap load of diet pop. Last time I went to the dentist he gave me **** and gave me a fluoride mouth wash to use. Also said to do the above after drinking pop, sometimes it can't be avoided like vodka + diet coke
